Switching from manual to power windows , how do you do it ?

Ive got a base model na that im trying to put t2 door panels and power windows/locks into, it seems that the windows must be taken out in order to take the power window motor out because it is attached.

whats the easiest way to swap them (don't tell me to swap my doors).

Im assuming that most of the stuff will hook right up into my wiring on my door.

1. Take off inside door panel
2. Roll window down about halfway, there are 2 10mm bolts holding the window to the regulator.
3. There are 3 (i think) nuts holding the regulator/motor inside the door, undo those.
4. remove window (or slide it up and tape it so it doesnt fall)
5. remove track/motor/regulator out of the big hole on the backside of door. all the wiring should already be in the NA crank door so its just a reverse of this to install.

i got bad news the 4 lug base models do NOT have the wiring for power windows in the door! the body does, but not the doors! i ran into this problem on my 87 base,

i encourage you to double check, but i know mine did not have the wires.

however i did notice my 86 sport model did have power window wiring in the doors even tho sports do nto come with power windows.

the chassis it self should have all the wiring tho, so you could either get new door harnesses, or add some wires your self in the door

My 87 base doesn't have the wiring in the doors either. I got the door harness from a junkyard, but haven't gotten it all sorted out yet.

mine was an original base model 4 lug. but i have s5 doors and every other body part on it! with the window things its pretty cool how i did it. i took an extra 'main window switch' from driver side and literally found the power and ground for each switch and also each window using a battery. then i just used a bunch of 16 gauge wire and ran it under the carpets to each side of the doors.. put the switch in the middle where the 'security light and suspension adjust is'! and now i can roll them up or down from the middle of the car. have had it this was for 2 1/2 years with no wiring problems what so ever.

The FC power windows can be problematic because the car is so old. The window switches frequently fail or get dirty. The tracks get nasty and the regulators get messed up, so the windows go up slowly.

I miss the crank windows on my 88 GTU. Don't do it, 80s power windows suck once they've aged like this.

I did this swap and my 87 base had the wiring. It might help to keep the power window motor and window bolts loose when it's all in, roll up and down the window, then tighten them. I think it lines everything up a little better. If you were back in GA I'd give you a hand, man!
