Question Switching Acuator Valve

okay, reassembling my TII and i have come across yet another decision point. really its more like there should be something there, it isnt and i want to know if i should put what isnt there back.

so this time is the switching acuator valve on the turbocharger. I know that it is supposed to help the turbo spool sooner, but the guy who owned it before me removed it. ive read a little in what ive searched but still cant get a good idea. should i reinstall it? is there any real preformance advantage in using it? I think the s5 turbos did not utilize the setup so im not sure what to think about it. Thoughts, comments, etc?

Reconnect it. The series five has a different design on the exaust manifold.

Are you talking about the twin scroll system? What the hell is a switching actuator valve...? The wastegate?

that is technical name for the valve in the manifold that directs the exhaust flow, part of the twin scroll system.

Crazy. The only s4 turbo2 I've owned was stripped down to the bare necessities needed to run.

Ok so at this point is it pluged and tapped or are the arm and flapper still in the manifold just without the actuator?? Because how it works is the vacuum line to the solenoid holds the flapper closed which allows less exhaust through the turbo creating more backpressure to spool your turbo and once you get around 2500 the vacuum opens the flapper which allows more exhaust flow creating better mid and top end. You can completely remove the system and just tap it with a 1/4 ntp and a 1/4 plug after removing the flapper, arm, and actuator. Plock off the nipple the vacuum line comes froma nd yoru done. What you will loose by removing the this flapper is a little low end(below 2500 rpm) spool up but for me it was worth it because when I race people I take it up to around 4500 rpms anyways. Here is the link for removing and getting rid of the setup. And I assume as it is right now you are loosing a little spool up because the arm is free flowing so exhaust probably pushed the flapper up again the housing. So its not helping spool up but is still an obstruction to high end flow. Either get rid of it or hook a vacuum line post intake manifold up to it. And the s5 doesnt not have a twin scoll at all. Its non existant. I hope that helps

Reinstall it. There are enough junk hybrid cars out there already.

I have a brand new s4 turbo throttle cable, used for less then 100 miles. I'll sell it for 50, it's a little more then that from mazdatrix new.

It does.

should i reinstall it?
If you can get the necessary parts without too much hassle then yes.

is there any real preformance advantage in using it?
Reduced turbo lag at low revs. Less lag = faster acceleration.

I think the s5 turbos did not utilize the setup...
It wasn't removed because it didn't work. S5's used a redesigned divided manifold and electronic boost control. On top of other advantages, both of these changes combined to make the twin-scroll unnecessary.
