Swapping internal TII organs into base model?

Ok, here's the situation.

I have an '88 RX7 SE model with pristine exterior and interior. 70K miles on original engine. I recently found a bad condition and wrecked '87 TII with terrible bodywork, bad paint, and crappy interior. However, the TII has 40K on the rebuilt engine.

I want to swap the base model internals into the TII shell and swap the TII internals into my base SE. Also going to put in the 5 lug conversion, trany/driveshaft, and LSD as well. I've read Aaron's article on the the turbo conversion and have the basic idea.

I was just wondering if the TII had a different internal chassis than the base models. Because I want to put in the NA tranny and engine along with the original 4 lug setup in it and rear end. It this feasible? Will the car still run correctly?

So you want to put the base stuff into the T2? Why So you have a running T2 with base guts? Just curious. The T2 stuff will be fine in the nice base you have.

So I can have a 2nd running car even if the bodywork and interior is bad. Just wanted to know if this is possible in a TII shell.

Last one I've seen in Frisco was sold about 2-3 months ago. They're pretty rare and even harder to find a mint condition TII.

The chassis' and everything are the same from 86-91. The only obstacle is th main vehicle wiring harness (that generally stays put in the car, but can be swapped; it is slightly different from NA to t2, but those differences can be overcome with about 4 wires.

Hey, as a former base model w/ lightweight package model owner I have a real problem w/ you calling the SE a base model.

It has the heavy *** sunroof, storage bins and lots of other stuff a REAL base doesn't have.

When I stuff my TII into something you can bet I will be looking for a base model again to swap EVERYTHING into- right after I strip the base of all that heavy tar and crap...

When you do it, pull the ECU wiring throught the firewall toward the engine, take off the strut top nuts, subframe to chassis bolts, and trans mount bolts, a few engine to chassis harness electrical connections, lift the front of the chassis very high and roll the entire engine, trans, subframe and suspension all out the front (helps to have a strut bar holding struts in place). If you don't drain the trans you will lose oil out the rear as you pull it off the driveshaft. Now, do the same for the rear.

Of course you still have to gut the interiors to swap out wiring harnesses I imagine.

Ok, thanks for the info. Guess I'll pick up a Haynes manual to get an overview. Wiring will probably be the biggest problem. Hope the swap won't be too difficult.
