Swapping Engine and tranny in one piece.. possible?

Just what the question asks? could it be done? I bought a frame car and I was wondering IF all I need to do is take of engine mounts and tranny mounts and swapp it into this other frame? or do i have to take the engine out first and then the tranny?

Pull as much stuff you can infront of the motor (rad and fans)
Its pretty easy to pull the whole thing as one peice, and to drop it back in.

Yeah, it's really easy to pull both the engine and tranny out as one.

Unplug the wires and hoses, remove the shifter, power steering, air pump, exhaust, intake manifold, etc. And off you go.

You don't even have to drain the oil out of the tranny because it will all spill out when you remove the drive shaft and start tilting the engine/tranny.

um... how do you propose to take the driveshafts and diffs out in one piece? The drive shaft is a bit flexible at the u joints, and you definatly wouldn't want the weight of the diff pulling on it anyway.. . that's a separate job

I did it this weekend.
Very easy when you pull everything at once.
Remove the radiator to have more room and not to ruin it.

Just undo the electrical stuff and the motor/tranny bolts and it will slip right out.

Besides it's easier to take a tranny off when it's not in the small crevice under your car.

The driveshaft takes about 10 minutes to remove.

The rearend is a little harder. I haven't done this but expect to in a year or 2.

Yeah I meant just teh short block and the tranny... thats awesome guys, thanx so much for the fast response, well yeah the frame car has all the suspension and stuff , basically ill have to remove the LSD and the driveshaft also the exhaust but that should be easy too right? how much do you guys think it will take me? ( not counting time for taking electric, manifolds, radiator, starter, etc...)

Also thanx to my friend his dad ( he is a mechanic) has hydrolic lifts wo we can stand up while working on the car =)

that's the best thing about these cars. Wreck one, go buy another for $300 and you're set in a weekend.
