Suspension setup!!!!!!

I got about $1,400 and I dont know if I should go with some coilovers (tein, cusco,or JIC) or just buy some better shocks and springs. If I get the shocks and springs I could also buy some sway bars and strut bars, but If I go with the Coilovers that will be it. What do you guys recommend. Are the coilovers worth it? if not, what kind of shocks and springs should I get? I was looking at the rs-r racing springs, those looked good. What do you guys think? suggestions anyone..........

Best bang for the buck:
Start with a full suspension bushing set.
Then new shocks.
Then a nice conservtive 3/4" cut off the springs.

Is this going to be a daily driver? I think you would quickly get tired of coilovers. I bought tokico struts with RB springs and I love it, great for the street. Handles well, but even roads I used to think were smooth shake me around some now. Atleast for the roads around here, if you got coilovers you might feel like you need kidney belts lol

I think that sure shot put it best. But i have one question shot? When you said ''cut'' did you mean like literally? Or just aftermarket springs?

Right now I got the Tokico blues and some Eibach springs, but the guy that had the car before me cut the springs. The shocks are worn out and the ride sucks. It's a daily driver, but I would like to get a suspension setup that will be decent at the canyons and for a daily driver.

I have the KYB AGX, stock T2 springs and Dunlop SP Sport 8000s (225/50 F, 245/50 R), and the handeling and stability is great. The ride is very comfortable for a daily driver, and I drive my car in the canyons a lot, this setup is affordable and gets the job done. Hope this helps.

Actually either.

Cut stock springs work very well as long as you take off less than 1 inch.
The effective spring rate increases some, but not too much.
Hitting a bump while turning may rub a little, but won't bend things.
Any more and the spring can come off the perch during a full rebound.
Also any more & the camber gets too far off.

For street:

Toicko's or KYB's. + Choice of spring

For coilover: Tein Flex

Also suspension bushing's as already mentioned.

My favorites were always the Intrax springs with Tockico non-adjustables. Best bang for the buck. I have had the RB springs before and removed them from the car within the 1st week. For some reason the car didn't look much lower than stock. I replaced them with the Intrax and it looked great with the Tockico's.

On ebay I think that setup might cost you 500-600 total which leaves some cake leftover for other goodies.

My setup is Tanabe GF210's drops car 1.5" with KYB AGX adjustables. Along with A Mazdatrix adjustable camber rod for the rear(1) and the Energy Suspension Master Bushing kit. Cost KYB's $353 shipped off of ebay, Bushings from Performancecenter.com for $104 shipped, Rear Camber Rod from Mazdatrix for $136+ shipping, and Tanabe GF210 springs from Performancecenter.com for $189 shipped. Grand total @$800. Its a very nice setup and you will have extra money left over!!

Well I have to say that the RS*R springs I got from Rishie at Auto RnD are sooo damn sweet. I installed Tokico HP's with the RS*R springs and it rides amazing. It is a little stiff, front spring rates are around 330 and rears are around 250, they are linear and I love them. It also drops the car to a nice looking lowered stance. Rishie said he ditched his coilover setup to run some of the RS*R springs, so that says a lot. Oh yeah, I got the Blues on ebay for $280 shipped and the springs from Rishie for $215.

i was wondering the same thing actually ... i heard agx are very popular. Most ppl match the kyb's with a linear spring. I dont know which are linear but i believe SS and eibach are pro's and like RED1990 said his RS*R's are linear.

btw RED i think i might copy you, my suspension needs to be replaced lol.

if your going for performance, i'd go with tien. then you can pick the type of setup you want really, or save a bit more later on and get an EDFC and that will allow you to adjust your coilovers if they are ones that work with the EDFC. I'm saving right now for the drift specs myself.

I've got Monroe Struts/ Shocks. They are a cheap oem replicate. And then an eibach pro kit. The kits says it only lower's .75 inches. But in reality... it was more like 1 inch front, 1.25 rear. A great ride (not horribly stiff) Worked for me

EDFC is only good for two main reasons, you're competing, and need to change the setting son the fly, or you're freaking lazy to get out of the car and adjust.

You could also look at Koni Yellow/ Ground Control combo or a lowering spring.

One main reason you would want to get coilovers is for corner weighting, if you don't do that, it's money wasted, th height adjustability doesn't hurt either.

Don't get the JIC's as many people can tell you from experiences, and Tein is not the end all of suspension like some people make it out to be.

This is a good link for people in your predicament.

right now on my car i have a set of kei office type xr coilovers and a front cusco strut bar, you do feel every bump in the road which i dont mind too much, its more of a bouncy feeling, kinda like the car is one with the road, but the handling is awesome just about no body roll and the corners feel great, unless you have a good friend in japan who is willing to keep an eye out in up garage for a used set it will be hard to find a set of kei office coilovers for much under $2000 tho. but before i upgraded to that i had a set of brand new tokiko blue shocks with the stock springs (not cut) and handling was good, stuck to the road very well but it had more body roll then i like.

Eh, the first thing I did was bushings and some KYB AGX and RB springs.

for $1400 I would probably do that and get the mazdatrix strut tower bar that connects to the firewall and is also an engine brace. Also... do you have emmissions? If not I really noticed a difference with just the RB downpipe and cat-removel pipe.

Yay for getting money!
