Question cam angle sensor?!!?? w.t.f

So My 86 gxl was sputtering falling on its ***--after everything was checked,we started messing around with the cam angle sensor, and we got it almost perfect. Then I went to start it and no go,no matter what we would do it wouldnt start.Figuring the thing was bad I got another one.Well my buddy yanks it out with out marking it.So now we installed the new one,she fired right up,but ran like ****.We took it out and moved it around untill we got it to run and fire up as good as possible. The car still falls on its *** and hesitates, and doesnt start up real easy. The timing light I have can not even work, can not get it to latch onto the ground wire on the coil--at least thats what all data says you do to check the timing on a rotary. How can I get this damn thing set right.Any one in maryland want to give some advise or a helping hand.

If it's a normal inductive timing light, all you need is the power & ground clips at the car battery, then the pickup "clamp" around the plug wires...If you haven't pulled the main pulley off of the engine, you can line up the right-side markof the pulley (looking from the front of the car) with the pin sticking out of the front cover, then pull the CAS and line up the two marks at the end of the shaft (arrow & a dot, IIRC)...Reinstall the CAS very carefully (she'll probably turn a little anyway), then commence to performing another timing check with the inductive pickup on the L1 plug wire (bottom plug on the forward rotor housing)...You should see the timing marks on the pulley now, and they should be close to the pin. Turn the CAS as necessary to line everything up...

theres your problem, the car does not have a camshaft. try adjusting the E-shaft sensor like WAYNE88N/A has said.
