Question Suspension Kits and Exhaust for NA's

I was just reading the thread on the RB TII exhaust and I was wondering what about the NA guys??

So I've been riding around and recently noticing the wonderful smell of exhaust in the cabin....there's definitely a leak somewhere and now that summer is here I'm ready to get some work done on this beast..
I was at the wonderful Racing Beat website and found their system for cat-back and I was wondering if there's something better in the same price range, I can afford the RB system and have been hearing rave reviews about it from TII guys but what do you NA experts think?

I probably need a new cat and some of the pre-cat piping business but couldn't find it on the RB site, am I just looking in the wrong place or...do they not have it..
either scenario any recommendations, added power is nice but not for 700 bucks

Finally to the main reason I need to do work on my car...damn shocks

I've been saving my money for a while but I stupidly didn't shop around to find out what kit I should get. From todays "shopping" I figure I'm probably going to get the RB suspension kit that has sway bars and springs and pick up Tokico HP Shocks. The reason I'm asking about this is two fold.
1) Can I get better stuff for the same or maybe a little more (or less) $$?
2) That DTSS or whatever the rear steering business is called, do I need to play with that when I get this stuff or can I pretend it doesn't exist?

Ok guys, sorry for such a long post but hopefully this will be the first of a lot of work done to my car this summer, I really appreciate you guys just reading all this, thanks a lot..

Please if you notice me missing something important please tell me I don't want this thing to explode, (in other words for the exhaust stuff I won't need to play with any ECU or fuel pump stuff I don't wanna mess with that just yet)

That rear steering thing and the auto adjusting electrical suspension dilly is scaring me from buying the suspension stuff.

Last thing last, if anyone can recommend a shop/website/whatever where I should buy all of this b/c they have good prices or good guys whatever please tell me, I'm a total newbie, I currently plan on buying from racingbeat.com and shox.com

Thanks again for reading this long *** post, I appreciate it

They have it. Except it doesn't come in a full kit like the turbo. Just buy the cat back and a straight pipe. Also you'll want a header. I've never heard of rear steering on a 7 but forget about the electronic adjustables. Mine still work and the normal button has never been pushed on purpose. Just get a nice set of tokico's and some exhaust.

ah straight pipe thats the thing I need thanks

the rear steering thing is probably just me being a noob, I thought I remembered reading something about some bushing people install when they do this kinda work because theres some electronic crap in there stock that makes for better handling or something (something other than the adjusting suspension..)

Tokicos and exhaust check, thanks roids

maybe cold air in next? who knows?

FCs have passive rear steering called DTSS. Most people who race their cars use DTSS eliminator bushings. Mazdatrix sells them.

n/as cant be deadly fast but they can be pretty sporty..
basically you got

full exhaust - header - straight pipe - cat back (i love RB stuff)
intake - do some type of cold air thing - you have to make it yourself
flywheel - loads of fun - wakes up the engine
and in the end you can try porting to squeeze a little more outta the engine

then do whatever suspension setup you like the RB setup is a good choice and the tokico's are a good choice

is the rear of your car unpredictable when high speed cornering?

if not then dont worry about it, they are there to keep the back end from coming around on the street but they end up doing the opposite and and messing up on the track.

you need an arbor press or a beefy vise to press them in since they are hard plastic, but it is not difficult if you have the tools, very much like any other bushing swap

madkwik at the moment my high speed cornering is like 40 during auto-xs which I know is not high speed at all

so I guess for the moment this is good

bcty I have to make my own cold air thing, I hope you mean like when you buy a kit some stuff doesn't fit so improvising is necessary...right?

thanks for the replies guys ordering the rb sway bars/springs today, picking up tokicos from a local shop tonight, can't wait to see how that feels

no you have to make you own cold air box...they do not sell premade ones for the 7 yet...i have seen one place that is currently in the design process but not selling them yet...do a sure on CAI youll find some threads on how to do it and see different ways people have done it...IIRC, one person has templates for how to cut the metal that he will send you....

I used Tokico HP's with the Eibach pro- kit springs. I've ridden in FC with the RB springs, and sway bars, and i can say that i was jeleaous. SO taught and firm. I'd go that route excpet maybe with KYB AGX since they're so cheap now adays.

The reason you're smelling exhaust inside the cabin is that you're back hatch seal is bad, you're gonna have to replace it. You're probably only smelling it at low speeds, and at stop lights.

When i started autocrossing i used to get beat by a couple of guys in N/A's with good suspension. Not blinding quick, but a good contender.

the AGX are adjustable in case you didn't know. DO not use KYB GR-2 as you will repeatedly kick yourself in the ***.

If you haven't seen this page on the toe eliminator bushings, it's pretty helpful for showing what needs to be done. The parts are $40 I think.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/rrsteer.htm

I am ordering my set tomorrow. Just finished building the car last weekend and I've found out my stock bushings are worn out and then some. The left is worse than the right - so when I hit anything over about 5% throttle, the car wants to turn left.

The stock bushings basically allow the front of the wheel to toe in, but it's only supposed to work in high speed corners (allowing quicker turn in). When they are worn out, they toe in under a lot less pressure (like hitting the gas). It's a very odd feeling, and getting rid of the feature altogether is a pretty good idea. 99% of RX7's will never see the cornering speeds where you'd want it to work anyway.
