Suspension Issues

First off, I have an 88 Turbo II. When I bought my car the suspension was absolute dog ****, it would just bounce all over the road, and not the stiff kind of bouncing, the real sloppy kind, and it was still the factory suspension at 175k miles. I then replaced the shocks and struts with tokico hp's and the springs with the GF210s, now it is a lot better but still kind of sloppy. Either this month or next I am going to replace all of my bushings with some polyurethane ones that I bought. You think that will fix the problem? or should I look elsewhere?

well, i think that should help solve a lot of the sloppiness, also look at your tires, i think there was a huge difference in feel for myself when i went to some hi-perf tires. And also maybe you wanna look at the steering components to see if you have any worn out parts there? like tierod ends, etc.

chris maybe you need to go for a ride in my car and see if it feels different than yours.

Yah I might have to do that Rob. I have ridden in 3 other FCs (N/As though) and 2 of them badly needed new rear shocks, but could out corner my car anyday (I would for sure catch them in the straights though). My dads 87 N/A automatic that has original suspension @ 140K is way better than my car in the corners :-( It is sad

My 130K mile bushings are falling apart, and some of them are say, twice as soft as pencil erasers, so yes, bushings are definitely a likely cause.

Also make sure to check the front and rear wheel bearings, alignment, and make sure all the bolts are tightened to spec.

I know the factory bushings that are on my car right now are awful, they look like someone put them in their mouth and chewed on them for a while. I believe I am the 4th owner of the car and I know the previous owner said that it was raced by the previous 2 owners, but of course everything is worn out by the time I get the car :-/ Atleast I have learned a thing or 2 along the way from replacing things.

Yah, using a 7 for a daily driver is not the best idea :-/

Even if you spent $1000 a year fueling, insuring, and maintaining a 2000-dollar car, it's still more economical than buying a new one... which still has to be maintained, fueled, and insured, plus you have depreciation...

So I don't really see why the 7 makes a bad daily driver.

I mean, it has more then enough space to carry a full load of groceries, enough luggage for 2 people to go on a trip, has relatively OK gas mileage (compared to...an SUV...), good range (...mainly because it has a relatively huge gas tank), and is a lot more fun than 90% of the cars on the road.

well my 7 wasnt a 2k car for starters, and it really doesnt hold a candle for MPG to my 2k hatchback with a swaped motor...and you cant beat insurance on a honda hatch... oh yea and reliability...

i would be driving my hatch but some igontant **** backed into it on saturday and fucked it all up.

my mazda has used over 1/4 of a tank and i have driven like 50 miles....

I didn't suggest that all 7's cost 2K. But that's a good starting price for an NA in good condition.

Obviously S5 turbos usually cost quite a bit more :p

But if you had to pick one car to drive, are you saying it would be a Honda hatchback?

That sounds about like my car in town. On the highway it doesn't do as bad. Last year I drove from Yakima to Wenatchee for ABF and back and still had almost a quarter tank, and I even had a high speed chase with a tacoma truck through the canyon on the way back. Which reminds me I was not able to completely keep up with him through the corners!!!! A Tacoma pick up!!! That is sad! That's before I did the springs though, but it still doesn't feel that much better.

I still have yet to hear a louder Rx-7 than yours Rob. Your hatch starts getting loud in the 6K RPM area though, but yeah it seemed like a good DD. I would drive my Rx-7 daily if I could afford it :-P

No, I mean if you can have ONLY one car.

Like, if you only get one parking spot at an apartment, or can't afford to insure two cars.

RX-7 hands down... (then again mine is an NA...hahah. Insurance is 50 bucks a month, and it gets 23 MPG on the highway...)

So suspension bushings get softer as they get older? Dang, I thought they got more brittle. Mine have 110k on them. They seem okay other than the cracking all around. And soft too, but apparently that's a bad thing. To be specific they are hard by some standards but I can still feel some slight give if I push hard with my finger. Still good?

I dd my FC without a problem. Just maintenance items. Replaced the fuel PD when I first got it, though. Been a year/8,000mi. now. I've taken many 100+ mile trips without worry.
