Supercharger question?

I have a couple questions about running a supercharger. I have been looking at Atkins supercharger and wanted to know a couple things about it.

I have read that it can produce up to 17 pounds of boost. My question is if I run about 13-15 or so will the air fuel temp be so hot that Detonation will happen? I am planning on running low compression rotors in the motor also.

What would be the best set up for the motor also? I was thinking of running a 6-port motor with low compression rotors because of the longer intake duration. Or would it be better to run a 4-port motor and just street port it?

Thanks

The lower intake for the atkins is for a 4 port engine unless they have something else available. A friend of mine is running a camden supercharger and had to change the pulley size to keep from over reving the supercharger and still be able to have the engine redline at 7000rpm. He is making about 230HP to the rear tires without an intercooler. You can't run an intercooler with their setup.

I think that the street port 4-port housings would be better. I would imagine that you would have serious detonation issues running that much boost with an inefficient blower and no intercooler. You should check with Atkins to see what they recommend with that blower.

Like Evil said, you would be running really hot intake charge temps without an intercooler. Call them up and ask what they recommend.

88FC3S- sounds like you are thinking along the same lines as me. I wanted more boost w/ less lag and better throttle response on my TII. I thought-siamesed (joining the two by grinding middle out) 6 port side housings (lots of duration and volume-need custom intake manifold to utylize), 3rd gen rotor housings (big exhaust ports), free flowing true dual exhaust, a big FMIC (won't cause as much lag on SC as turbo, will reduce throttle response some- but you need cool air), stand alone ECU (obviously) and lasty a Lysholm SC out of Mazda Millenia S (I believe flows 15psi? stock on a very late closing intake valve, miller cycle 2.3L v6-thats alot of flow.) Lysholm SC reach full boost very early, great adiabatic efficiency and volumetric efficiency.
I chickened out since if this set-up didn't work I couldn't just put a turbo on it and expect any kind of street-ability. I "only" bought a series 5 rebuild w/ series 4 rotors, 3mm apex seals, large street port, oiling mods, etc. since this would work great w/ any turbo incase SC idea doesn't work well. We'll see; maybe I'll chicken out even more and just put my turbo on to start.
