Supercharger Question

My RX-7 has a intake and hopefully a few other performance upgrades. My question is would it be stupid of me to put a supercharger on if I have about 105000 miles on it. would you think the engine could hold up with that mod, or do you think I should do other mods before I do that.
let me know what you guys think.

thank you

Superchargers increase the amount of intake air to the engine, which permits more fuel to be added to the fuel/air mixture per combustion cycle. When the spark ignites this mixture, it generates more energy (hence the higher horsepower) which also increases the combustion pressure within the combustion chamber. As a result, stress on some components in the engine (e.g., seals) will increase. There is always a risk of increasing the performance characteristics of an engine, especially when that engine has high mileage.

300hprx7,

I've been giving this a lot of thought lately (super vs turbo). Supercharging obviously is like dropping a larger engine in as boost is always on and instantly available.

I think if you keep boost low (5.5-6.5 PSI) you should see little loss of engine life. You'd definitly want to either convert to a carborated setup (cheap method) or stay with fuel injection and run an aftermarket ECU like haltech's (better control of fuel/air mixture). Either way you have to monitor the vitals to keep from popping the engine. Air/fuel, boost, exhaust temp, and coolant temp are the recommended gagues.

Also, are the NA's oil coolers the same size as the TIIs?

On the convertible TII project I've been planning, I think it makes sense to drop the convertible shell on the TII (logically speaking). Running a supercharger on the TII motor would eliminate any questions on drivetrain strenth, flow, etc..

I have been considering S/Cing my TII to outflow stock turbo, but not have lag like big turbo eventually. the right S/C should give better throttle response, but I can tell you it won't be just like having more displacement. The stock turbo on the TII w/ full open exhaust and TID has almost zero lag, but even full boost at lower rpms is nothing like full boost (note: same psi) at higher rpm. More displacement would be like an NA 20B! Maybe this is what I should be considering...ha ha!
