Super Clean, Super Used
So after trying to fix my 87 project rx-7 i have pretty much given up and went out and bought one that already works.
it was a one owner meticulously cared for rx-7.
but it wouldn't be an rx-7 if it was perfect.
1990 rx-7 gxl
234,000 miles
doors lock but they open when you pull the handle, wtf.
oil pan a bit of a leak.
diff is now worn all the way to an open diff.
exhaust is slightly below average.
stereo been poorly replace and faceplate lost anyways so no radio, right now.
one headlight is out.
and now the +'s
body is 98% perfect
interior is about 89%
drives great.
smokes none, except at cold starts a little.
a/c heater works! never had both before.
sport/normal suspension switch actually changes the suspension, not much but still.
snow tires, woo.
fog lights, woo
so pretty excited to have my first working rx.
wish i knew more about the cars history though.
has a 128 emblem on the back, wtf is that please?
and i would have posted pics but it decided to snow the day after i got it.

Don't worry about the differential. It's not worn, it's just an S5. While S4 GXLs had the LSD, S5s had an open diff. The only NA S5 that has an LSD is the GTUs.
Congratulations on the new purchase though. Sounds pretty nice.
I'd like to know how you calculated that the interior is about 89% good (lol).

everywhere said gxl's had lsd's but they didn't say s4 or s5.
i figured 89 because it was really good but not quite a 90% haha.
as soon as it stops snowing and i can wash it i'll post pics.
might be a while, still have 2 days of snow they say.

when i lock it and pull the exterior handle it opens and sets off the alarm.
and if i leave it locked it randomly decided to set the alarm off too.
seems like the open/close door sensing system fails completely.

"doors lock but they open when you pull the handle, wtf."
My 87 TII did the same thing when i got it........odd. I just hit the locks and pull the handle up while closing the door and the door stays locked. Odd indeed

i thought all of the fcs had to pull the handle while you shut it to lock. at least all the ones ive run into contact with. its ****** annoying trying to explain it to your dumb friends... most of the time i just tell them to shut the door and lock it from the inside. hahah

now i don't have to look outside and make sure my car isn't stolen or the alarm isn't going off.
now, where to find cheap exhaust that isn't horridly loud.
basically i want this car to be almost bone stock except for stereo, still might go stock though, lsd, and maybe upgrade suspension but then lose use of sport mode switch thing makes me not want to.
figured out how to use my cruise control today.
took pics, but for got the camera in the car so not gonna get it for like another few hours.

you should put some nice 17's on it too
also drifting a lightweight rwd car with an open diff in the snow/ice is not a really good idea, i had my 240sx out on the ice last night and found that one out. im no bad driver, and i know how to drift but i couldn't put the car where i wanted for the life of me.
how does the cruise work? i don't know if mine does or doesn't if there is some kind of a trick to get it to engage... lol

Your paint color is called "Winning Silver" and was only available in '89 and '90. You don't see too many FCs in that color. Sort of silver with a hint of red mixed in. My dad's '89 626 was painted that color and I always liked it. Your car seems to have a nice clean, straight body.
As unren mentioned, it looks like the previous owner swapped out the radio bezel/vents with the part from an S4 car. Maybe the original one got broken. The S5 version has a rubberized coating and is a little less prone to cracking. It's easy to swap back if you care.
Also, assuming you took the interior photo with the door open, it looks like your driver's side automatic "mouse" belt may be jammed in the track. If so, Mazda has a lifetime recall on this system and will replace the tracks and cables for free if they are defective. If you do a search on this, you can find the exact recall campaign number in case your local dealer gives you a hard time and claims the recall is closed.

idk if the mouse is broken or not.
it works sometimes and sometimes not.
does it matter if the car is on?
i like the stock rims i have now.
strange, drifting my open worked fine.
of course i'm not trying for huge angle.
but it does seem hard to carry the slide.

If they're working correctly, they should automatically move from the back of the car (behind your shoulder) to the front of the car whenever the door is opened. Once in the "open" position, the belts won't move back unless the ignition is on and the door is closed. Even when the car is off, if either belt was in the locked position when the car was shut off, the belt should still move to the front "open" position when the door is opened.

finally changed the oil, did 44k, and even got a k&n air filter.
cars feels much smoother and better now, not that it was bad before.
also got a cheap stereo, kinda nice being able to listen to music without headfones.
are there any decent headers for the n/a's?
i can;t seem to find any and thats the only mod i really want to do.
