Sunroof motor replace

k im sitting in a parkingot and i have the sunroof open. for 10 mins about half way. then i try to close it. no worky. nothing. no sound. checked the fuses. there fine. so i took my whole roof apart today and before the motor was like weak or somthing cuz i would havto help the sunroof open. so i pulled it out cuz i thought maybe it decided to pack it in. i hook it up to a battery charger and it works fine. im going to get a motor from one of my friends junker rx7's see if that helps. anyone got any sugestions ???

It's not likely the motor - never heard of one failing - probably either a broken drive cable or the tracks are grunged up with crud. Either way you have to dismantle the whole thing , take down the headliner and take the sunroof frame out of the car to do a proper job - when mine went bad I found it cheaper to buy a complete frame and motor from the wreckers and replace my non-functioning unit as one piece. It's a lot of work but not difficult as long as you are very careful with the cruddy plastic trim that will break if you look at it the wrong way.

I'm pretty sure that the sunroof switch has to be grounded to operate. If the connection isn't good enough, the motor might seem very weak or not even work at all. This might be why it worked when you had it out. Replacing the sunroof is a pain, but take your time and it shouldn't be too big of a deal. I agree with ianbell that it's easier to replace the whole thing--if you can find it cheap! Either that, or tape a big piece of cardboard over the hole .
