'Lo All,

I have three questions. One, regarding my sunroof. I know that you are suppose to use the button once to pop the sunroof up and then a second time to slide it back. My sunroof isn't acting like it's working right. When I hit the button I hear the motor running but it doesn't pop up. I have to lift it up with my hand. It then slides back fine but it won't go back on it's own. I have to push it back while holding the button down. (From outside the vehicle.) What's wrong? The rails look nasty... WD40? :P What do you recommend?

Secondly, just out of curiosity, when is the car supposed to beep while the door is open. Sometimes it beeps with the door open, key out, sometimes it beeps door open key in and sometimes it doesn't beep either way.

Finally, my horn isn't working. Fuse looks fine. How should I troubleshoot this thing so I can pass a safety inspection. :P

#2 and #3 are probably due to cold soldering joints in your cpu. It's not too hard to take it out and resolder it. http://www.johnr.com/rx7faq/faq3.html

 

^ is right and it is also addressed in the FAQ.
#1 is the cables are rusted up or and the rails are dirty. You need to pull the sunroof out and take it apart and reservice it.

 

i have an 86 with a sunroof, same problem.. had to push up on it and guide it to close just like yours... so i have a parts car, 89, the roof poped up and slid back perfectly... so i put that one with that motor in my car and it just does the same thing in my car, have to push it up and guide it to close it... soo its the car not the roof... probly bad ground somewhere if its and s4 like mine... who knows its cold i dont use it much right now anyhow

 

For your horn I had the same issue, check the contacts on the wheel itself, make sure they're clean, that was my problem.

 

Just to be clear, the thing I'm resoldering, the CPU, is the thing on the drivers side, right? Or is it the ECU on the passenger side or have I got my wires crossed altogether?
