Yeah, called my brother... and asked what happened.. and how might I beable to fix it...

he said grab some wd40 and spray it inbetween the tracks. I'm going to go do that.... will leave an update.

I tried to get help closing it from my mom, no go. Then again she was probably doing it wrong - I'll try the wd40 at first.

My brother mentioned that if spraying the tracks doesn't help .. you can somehow manually get it down... gotta read the manual to do so, anyone know?

How long should I let the wd40 set before trying it again? I just sprayed some on.. but hmm. I dunno.

I think it's just werid for it to stop all of the sudden.

If cleaning out the track doesn't fix it, you _may_ have a broken linkage... basicaly a giant flexable spring attached to the roof assembly that pulls and pushes it. It usualy breaks when someone holds the button down for too long. I just bought anew one for my car for $20 bux from a guy who parts out cars near me so it wouldn't be obscenly expensive... of course this only applies if only one side of your sunroof stops working unless they both snapped but thats unlikley...

bump...

I sprayed some WD40 in last night, still doesnt work. I did find alot of crud(grease, dirt, whatever it was) along the tracks ... it still won't close .. only to the ½ mark. Anyone have any other ideas as to what the problem is?

I own a 88 gxl n/a. I heard that in GXL models, most of the sunroofs die out pretty fast. Mine never gave me trouble until after the servre storm we had today (3 weeks in a row). It was working after I left someplace with my mom, went to eat, closed it (closed all the way), left to go back home....closed everything, and bam, it shuts only to ½ remaining open.

To close the sunroof manually you need to pop off the cap thats right behind the sun roof. It's about the size of a 50 cent piece. Use an allen key to turn the screw

Ok, well I'm going to try that Therx7ist. See if that helps. I might as well ask too - What if it doesnt turn? Is there another way?

I'm glad I saw your post - the friggen manual doesnt have anything about the elec. of a sunroof... unless they call it something else than a sunroof

It takes some force to turn the manual crank since you are having to overcome the friction clutch in the gearbox.
Question, does it want to move on one side, but not the other? Any sounds (whirrs, clicks, groans) from the motor?

RE: Sunroof?

I have owned two different 87s and both sunroofs didnt move back without help. Not sure if the motor is just too weak or the track is misaligned or what. Inside you can get into the motor assembly but I havent tried to make mine work better. I will try over the weekend and get back to you (christi) and the list.

If you're referring to the cap that needs to come off for you to access the allen key to manually turn the sunroof...it is located about 6 inches behind the sunroof, on the interior of the car. Its a small round cap..about the size of a half-dollar. Just pop it off....and the screw is underneath it. Hope this helps.

I did that last night and still doesnt budge. Hell, this is frustrating. I'm just going to take it to a friend of mine, and see if he can bugde it. Me, being a girl, I'm not strong enough to twist the thing anymore. It won't budge
