Yeah...the cables break, and it has a hard time moving.. I can get mine to move, but I have to manually assist it while pushing the button... maybe try that?

Does the manual crank work? (that little round hole behind the sunroof).

The sunroof in my 89 does the exact same thing, motor runs but nothing moves. Before this it could be pushed a little to get it moving. I just assumed that the headliner and everything would have to be removed to get at the sunroof and find out what was wrong. I remember seeing plans for this somewhere online, maybe the fsm has them... can't remember. Anyone done this fix yet?

Yea,

Mine does the same thing except I just give it a slight push and goes back. It would be really nice if you could get it to go back atleast just a bit or just tilt. This is what I did and than you can get at all the internals. Crossbar, if your talking about your 88 than I am guessing, since I have done this on another sunroof, that you can pup the paneling off at the top. However, there might be screws or duct wires that you need to fool with. I didn't fool with mine myself however, I have a mechanic that is a good friend and he fools with all of my outside **** (I wouldn't let him touch my Wankel). I am thinking that the yours didn't come off the track since this is generally impossible and at the same time it would cause a leak. I bet the wheels that it drives on either rotted away or just broke. Well this probably hasn't been much help but it was the thought that counts.
