Summertime heat

I live in southern missouri and its been in triple digits for this entire week. my 88 gxl is running a little hot. I was wondering if there is something I could do to make her run cooler. I try not to rev her too much and shift low in the rpms. I thought about flushing the radaitor and adding mostly water instead of antifreeze. I heard that antifreeze doesnt cool as good as water dont know if thats true or not. Also another heat question I was thinking about tinting my windows. I wanna see a pic of a hatch that is tented Ive never actually paid attention to hatch tenting. I want to see if it looks alright. A little off topic but thought I would add that question. Thanks

what i did to mine was installed a stock ac fan that goes in front of the ac condesor and i have it running all the time with ignition power. dont know how much it helps, but at least its getting some fresh air through there.

Check your oil cooler. Most of the time it is overlooked and neglected. Give it a good cleaning and it may help cool your motor. Also, check your radiator and condensor to make sure there is nothing obstructing airflow.

You using your A/C? Turn it off, that'll make your motor run warmer. Also, change the duct setting deally to defrost, and switch the temperature control to the warm side.

Should help you run a bit cooler.

No im not using my ac. Ill try the defrost and to warm side and look for any air flow obstuctions. Thanks for the ideas

Whether it's on defrost, or bi-level or whatever doesn't really matter, but I put it on defrost so I don't have hot air blowing right at my face. Windows down cruising at like 80 mph on the way home from work makes it bearable(sp?).

man, i just drove my 87 tII from west virginia to New Mexico through missouri and that triple digit heat - missouri shold be pronounced misery. my tII ran cool at 100 mph with A/C on - a little bit above 1/3 of the gague. i have the stock viscous fan, plus an extra electric fan like lil red has. also having a new oem radiator helped me with my heat issues...

I'd do a cooling system tune-up if you haven't done one. Flush your coolant, change your thermostat, and replace your radiator cap. Radiator cap is probably the most overlooked item that needs to be replaced periodically.

I also heard that water conducts heat better than antifreeze/water mixed, but I thought antifreeze also raised the boiling point. There's also products like "Water Wetter" that are supposed to drop your temperatures by up to 40 degrees. Driving with the heater on in 100 degree heat should just be to get you home or something. I know when I get hot, I get irritable. If I'm driving in 100 degree heat with the heater on, someone's gonna die. :P

Richter in TX - 100+ for last two weeks, no relief in sight. 105 today (feels like 106 according to weather.com)
