Ok as some might know I went to the mechanic today with my friends 86 GXL. Got the safety inspection and got a quote. $1000. I was like "Holy Crap!" So I made some choices to the kid, A) fix the stuff and sell it to me for 1700$ like originally planned or B) sell it to me for 500$ and ill fix it. Well he's deciding not to sell it to me(sorry for the next guy) Anyways my other friend has a 88 TII AE, but his is weird. IT starts and revs to 1200 and idles there for about 2 sec...then dies...if u hold the gas down it will stay alive and able to drive...but as soon as u go to the stop sign or light, you have to restart it. Couple of months ago this mech. said it was the AFM. Could this be causing the dieing or is it something else like a vacuum leak(hopefully not cuz i dont know where to find em') Please help me out...I like the TII better not cuz of turbo just cuz of the leather and interior. the GXL sucks compared to this thing...almost mint..... help me out though

TIA
James

I believe that the AFM can be the culprit for that problem.

However... if I could get my hands on an 10AE I'd grin and bear whatever probs came my way. I heart 10AEs. Aren't they the rarest RX, at only 1500 made, and only sold in the U.S.?

10AEs are rare, at any sort. Here they're pretty common, but in the grand scheme they're still rare. I'm not sure how many GTUs were made, but it's probably pretty close.. Hopefully Icemark'll chime in. He knows just about everything.
