Subwoofer boxes for storage bins or rear of RX7
Hey,
Just wanted to know if anyone would be interested in subwoofer boxes for the rear section of the RX-7 coupes or storage bins. I'm planning on making some sub boxes for some money and since I do have RX-7's all over the place, I could easily custom some sub boxes. Just wanted to see if anyone (if anyone is) interested in a few (of course I'll test them to make sure they aren't **** of course, I'm not out to screw anyone over). But yeah just testing the market for em.
Thanks!

As covered countless times... storage bins = crappy location and poor accoustics.
I would think no one that wanted quality sound would want any for the bins...

What if you used say two 10s with the woofers facing towards the back of the seats and enclosed the whole area where the bins/rear seat would be with a large fiberglass box and a port between the two woofers. Seems the location might be much better if the subs weren't firing directly towards the ceiling

Woofers in Bin = Bad idea
I have installed (should be removed by end of next week for battery relocation) 10" rockford fosgates into my rear bins and they don't sound good at all. I even placed fill in the bottom of the bins, but it did not help any. I would be very interested in some high quality sub biins. Please keep us posted as to your efforts.
Thanx

experimenting with a couple of enclosures I have on hand, this was the best sounding setup I could get. it costs a lot of space and deleted the ability to recline the seats AT ALL (not to mention the loss of bins)... but the sound is pretty incredible. The sound response is instantatneous... very 'punchy' and VERY deep too!
Only drawback is the presence was stolen mainly to the rear (door speakers could not keep up because I had them crossed over to pass highs only)
It is a ported box with tweeters on it (so you get full-range attack directly behind your seats). 400W amp pushing.
I switched to a sealed box in the hatch, and lost a lot of 'punchiness'. but I got my bins back and my recline-o-seats. = )

The only way I can see storage bin subs working well is if you take out the bins and shell of the bin area and completely rebuild it. Remove the lids completely, make it into a sealed box esentially. Then have another box made to fit inside this. On the other side you can even make an amp rack to hold the amp/s if you only run 1 sub. Everything hidden which is nice too.
This is the way my rx7 came when I first bought it, since then it has all been removed. The plastic part of the storage bin shell was left, but instead of the lips a wood panel was fabricated to go over. This was then covered in matching carpet on top to look normal. On bottom on the subwoofer side a kind of cage/deadening type thing was on the bottom of the wood panel to help with vibrations or something I'm sure. Then a custom box made for 1 10" kicker solobaric sub was made that was molded to the groove of the storage bin area. On the other side of the storage bin area was an amp rack made to hold 2 amps. It was very cleanly done, but I sold all the parts of this on ebay because I had no plans on running a sub or anything like that.

I didn't see anyone mention it (not that I read carefully), but speakers where the spare is. Would this cause the same sound problems as putting them in the storage bins?

Well guys you found the worse week to dig me up .
Ive got college finals for the next 2 weeks. After that I get a month in a half off.
How would you guys like some progress?
Like mabey a finished set and a mold created so I can make a few .
Im also working on 2 other designs for 10's- The arent aimed at the hatch glass, rather angled inward, still conforming with the stock curves from the strut towers- they look pretty good IMO.
