Icemark, this may be different, I thought the exact same thing you are describing firing the sub upwards to a very crappy location. AKA ROOF.
I was thinking of putting a 10 inch sub on the front part of the box facing the passengers seat. what is your take on this?
Of course it would have a box, the bin would not be the enclosure it would have it's own dedicated enclosure.

I actually think the 12W6 and 8W1 to be some of the best subwoofer speakers ever made for any amount of money.
Although when I was with DEI we did play around with a couple of speakers that Eminence designed/built for us based on the Theil Smalls we requested, we used the 12W1 and 12W6 as reference 12 inch sub woofers to compare too.

Let me tell you something. I was working at jl when they first introduced the jl subwoofer line for cars.Manville, lol.Stop checking out the website and reading **** before you say anything about you knowing Manville. And now as all you forum viewers that are watching, if you can see now hes using what I said from the beginning of this thread.Using my knowledge of audio. And very well you should know that by using a bandpass you will need good midbass drivers upfront due to the speaker not playing in a open enviroment. So basically it plays sluggish.Thats why you will need a good midbass to complement it.I don't really care if anyone puts their subs in the bins.Bass will be reduced due to not being boundary loaded. If they do use the bins make sure to construct rigid enclosure. Now I will address the issue of CAD programs. They are good for designing enclosures. And yes you can tweak the sound. Now like I said before "IceMark you cannot compare a sealed system to a bandpass system. The are two different enclosures built for different bandwidths and musical taste. It all also depends on what type of music you listen to in your car."Marky Mark tisk, tisk, tisk, shame on you.You should know better .Now go call Manville since you say you know him and go cry on his shoulder.Oh by the way.Oh and for the rest of the guys out there.Build your system and design your system as you see fit.So what every you want to design, from a street pounder to an audiophile system.Don't let guys like Mark effect you.A real installer works together with his clients to design a system to fit their musical needs....Hey marky How'd ya like them apples....
