Stupid Timing Will Not Go To Right Setting

Ok so I had adjusted the timing on my 87 N/A a few months back. i advanced it to the second mark because it ran better that way. And i could never time the trailing side correctly it wasn't even reading. GRRR! i need help. the car ran fine. Now today i changed the timing back to factory specs on the leading side, but it still is no where near the timing marks. Hmmmm Maybe somone screwed up the timing on the CAS cause the motor is rebuilt . or maybe i have the plug wires switched . I'll have to check that. But please throw out any suggestions!

When you say you adjusted the timing, how did you do it? The proper way is to turn the engine until the leading time mark on the pulley lines up with the pointer on the front cover. Then pull the CAS. Align the small dot on the gear of the CAS with the raised mark on the shaft. Insert the CAS back into the motor and Whala its done.

After doing this put a timing light on it connected to the plug wire labled L1 which should be connected to the plug in the lower front Rotor. check the timing marks to insure they line up, if not then slowly rotate the CAS until they do. Next put the timing light on the T1 plug wire which should be connected to the plut in the upper front rotor. The lines should line up on the secong mark on the pulley. When the lines line up you can tighten the bolt and be done with it.
