Stupid question about wiper switch

Hi, I have a stupid question but what is the "INT" supposed to do?

My low and high speed work fine but when I put it on "INT," it sets the wipers to wipe the windshield in extremely slow steps and a bit jittery. Is this normal? Thanks.

Intermittent, as in there is an adjustable delay between wipes. It is a slow speed, the dial on the right side of the switch adjusts the delay time between sweeps.

Does the delay time mean one full fast sweep after a certain number of seconds?

Or is it supposed to do a sweep but at a very slow pace? I just tested the speed dial and it did affect the pace between faster and slower sweep.

Both, depending on where the dial is turned.
