Arrow Stuck Brake Piston - 4 Piston Brakes

Hello,
I have a stuck brake piston on the 4 piston style brakes. I did a search and found some possible solutions:

1 - use compressed air or grease with something holding the other pistons in place

2 - Just keep wiggling it

3 - give up; if it's really stuck just replace it

Any other ideas? Has anyone had any luck with heating with a torch? What about just using penetrating oil?

Brian

Easiest/safest is to replace it. Rebuilding is an option for the mechanically inclined.

The entire braking system is really dependent on a couple of teenie weenie square cut O-rings in the caliper. If there was enough wear/corrosion/moisture/heat to multilate that one piston's seal, then it would be best to replace all.

You can use an air compressor(low pressure) and shoot that piston into the ceiling of your garage. Or just reconnect the brake hose and stomp on the brake pedal. I am not sure if they have caliper rebuild kits for the caliper. One visit to the parts store in your area will answer that one.

Check napaonline.com or autozone.com
The rebuilt calipers didn't seem too expensive.

They do make rebuild kits for the 4-piston calipers, you can find them on mazdatrix website. I would say replace them, because they are already really old. I found rebuilds for 39.99 (cheap) at the local auto parts store.

Front right

Using air at 140 PSI didn't budget it. I'm going to try using the brake system to apply a lot more force next! It will make a huge mess I'm sure!

Where did you find rebuilds for 40 bucks!?
