Stripping Weight off the RX-7

I wanted to make this post to get any tips on what I can remove from my car to lessen the weight of it all...

So far I only took out my spare (since I have AAA service) But the stock car is friggin 3660!!! I thought it was a lot closer to the 1st Gen.

Anyway, post away, maybe this will help out other RXers as well on lightening their load. Thanks a lot!

i stand to correct you that you mean the car weighs 2660lbs.. i dunno where you picked the extra 1000lbs up unless you own a supra.. hehe.. anyway take out anything thats not needed such as sound deadener, pass seat, rear storages bins, carpet, PS, AC, ect.. any way remmeber every hundred pounds removed is a 10th of a second(i think, might be a 100th) any who and every 5lbs of rotational mass removed is 1hp.. just my $.02 Dave

Its pretty much fair game you take out what you want or dont want. Engine wise the AC, powersteering, EGR, ACV, airpump, omp, and various vaccum lines are parts that can be taken off. -Gabe

Do you have a TII? Otherwise you can try and find an aluminum N/A hood, I don't know how much weight that will save you though..

N/A aluminum hood saves 22-25 lbs...rear hatch. replace carpet for aftermarket car carpet. 20lb

Got a scale and weighed the battery. Lightest walmart batter 35lbs. Stock is probly heavier. I bought optima bat and saved 22lbs

sunroof I weighed and saved 35lbs
front and rear bump soports equalz 45 lbs or more with the fog lights

passenger seat was 30lbs
Single full exaust mabey 20 lbs
removed P/S A/C and little misc crap 40lbs
Spare 25lbs
12lbs for auto seat belts.
Racing seat 15lbs

Thats all I can think of that I did so far. total savings is 300lbs not including the rear hatch. I think my exaust could ahve been more but I dont know. with hatch around 350 bring car down to 2499 with full interior and stereo. Hardly noticable to...I still have a nice interior and comfortible ride. Keep your blower motor to blow hot air during winter and stereo , dash is all you need.

Guys, my car is 3655... it says so on the drivers side door... I have 1750 in the front... and 1980 in the back... this is a stock 1991 N/A Mazda RX-7

3655 lbs.

I thought that it was 2600 as well, but my cousin who is a mechanic told me he thought they were heavy little buggers. So we took a look on the stats on the side on the passenger side... 3655... :o

That is a **** ton of weight my friends... and I need to find out what I can take out.

I am gonna lower the front end and raise the back a bit to equal the weight ratio to a nice 50/50 when taking off.

If you believe everything Mazda put on your car... then DO NOT REMOVE THE AIRPUMP! (it says so on the airpump)

Actually hit a scale. You'd be surprised how wrong that little sticker is. That's probably the shipping weight of the car, when they pack it full of cinder blocks and styrafoam peanuts.

BTW: why would you want 50/50 weight distrobution (which helps handle) while your car is squatting from excelleration??? You plan on perma-launching your car on a naskart track?

This is grouse (not sure if I sp that correctly) vehicle weight. Total weight that the RX-7 could carry on the front and rear. This includes people and luggage. Grouse weight does not mean that your car actually weights.
