wow, sounds like it runs great. Excellent work with the whole project. No matter what the outcome is, you are the man just for doing it.

It has the original stock exhaust with the cats "unclogged".

I'm such a cheapskate - I find it hard to toss something that is still working, even if it’s not the best.
One good backfire may finish it off before long.

Update:
Cold start is good, hot start is good, but warm restart wants to flood.
The fuel pump resistor relay button is very helpful.

I found some oil seepage in the turbo drain line, and at the oil level switch.
Maybe 2 drops/day. I'll fix that later.

>900 miles - all is well - boost goes to 11 next week!

Break in is done

So far, so good.
Break in is done, boost at 11, fuel & timing are very conservative until I get it tuned.
VERY streetable.
No idle lope unless I turn it down to 650 RPM.
Low end grunt is solid.
Nailing 2nd at ~5K really spins the 225's.

I plan to take the G-tech for a ride when the weather gets better to get some 0-60 & Qtr mile numbers.

congrats man....

where is your boost coming on at? are you getting a signifcantly better spool time with the proting/beveling?

Yes - It looks like I need a bigger compressor.

The mid range power really pulls, but the boost falls off at the top, even in 3rd.
1st peaks at 10, then falls to 6
2nd peaks at 11, then falls to 7
3rd peaks at 11, then falls to 8
4th peaks at 11, then falls some (I haven't topped out 4th yet)

The port job appears to be out flowing the stock compressor.
I realize that my stock exhaust with gutted cats is part of the problem.
A turbo back exhaust may spool higher, but will also shorten the life of the turbo.

So - where do I send my spare turbo for new bearings & a bigger compressor?

RX7 store is a frequent stop for the hybrid guys....

But I am sure there are numerous other sources for upgrades...

Best thing you can do is go with a small-ish full upgrade...t04E or something along those lines. You can use the ebay manifold and wastegate, buy your turbo or have it built, make your own stainless lines, and get someone to weld up a downpipe for you and get out for <$1500 in all likelihood. You'll be much happier than you would with a hybrid.

i agree, a hybrid will always be a choke on ported motors. get a full T4 turbo and you'll never look back you can get a Master Power T4 60-1 for less than a hybrid WOOOT!

IMO a hybrid is the worst of both worlds. You get the spool time of a bigger turbo, but the restriction of a stock exhaust manifold/turbine housing/wastegate, and usually only 25-40hp more than a stock turbo can put out.

Whereas with the full upgrade, you get much better flow, more power at lower boost levels, lower heat levels, and a better wastegate and downpipe setup for better control. Whereas you have to push a hybrid to make >300rwhp, a full t4 setup can make that much power in it's sleep, and of course you have room to grow on up to 350 or so if you get the itch.

Awesome setup Dude!!! So do U think the beveling job on the rotors is working out? What about any balance issues? Very curious about your procedure. Nice job!!

Kevin- I think you're right. This motor wants a t04 & FMIC, but my budget won't bend that far.
The best I can do for now is put new bearings in the spare turbo, and be prepared to swap it every 20000 miles.

About balance- I don't feel any vibration when holding various revs.
Any problem there should show up as low oil pressure from main bearing wear.
I will be watching the oil pressure over time.
This motor had about 90000 miles on it, and I just put in seals & O-rings (the RA basic kit).
If it goes to 180000 I'll be happy..

That didn't make any sense.

Compressor wheel size really has nothing to do with your boost dropping off.
The porting has nothing to do with too-small a compressor wheel.
You're right about the "stock exhaust" choking the turbo - that will kill boost, especially on the top end.
A freer flowing exhaust will not automatically shorten the life of the turbo.

We shall see:

Opening up the exhaust is an option within budget.

I am planning to fabricate a 3" downpipe with a remote operating cut-out (AKA header dump).

Update: The camera mount is still under development.
I’m still rounding up downpipe & cutout parts.

The break in is done, compression is up, starting is easy.
I reset the idle & TPS to 750 RPM.

The idle lope I was expecting, is just now showing.
At low idle, it now sounds a little “bridgy”

short sound bite of idle lope

I took the hat cam for a ride last Sunday

My old video editor kept crashing.
I finally found one that seems to work.

0 to 70 launch (no traction- but fun)

65 to 100 pull (drop a gear & disappear)
