Unhappy Strange throttle response

If i tap the gas pedal rapidly the engine revs up but then falls to a point where it almost dies. Not sure what is causing this I think it may be the afm. I have already replaced the stock intake filter and its housing with a k&n cone filter to get better airflow. This didnt seem to do much though. Other than almost dying from revving it rapidly the engine runs strong. It also has an erratic idle at start up as well. Help please.

Check your mechanical idle adjustment per the FSM, with the initial set coupler jumpered...And while she's hot...
