Strange question about relief silencer?
I was reading through my haynes manual and noticed something strange (or maybe a misprint). all s4 t2, s5 na, s5 t2 have that relief silencer under the passenger headlight according to my manual. it does not show it for s4 na cars. I have an 86 base na (technically 10/85), yet I have this relief silencer. do all 2nd gens have this or is my manual correct and I am not supposed to in my s4 na? I am curious because that would mean I had an s5 na engine in there which would change things considerably for me. I have no previous history of my car since I got it from a used car dealership, but it had 5 lug, 4 piston front brakes, no sunroof or rear wiper, no split air pipe at all (but the spout on the cat is there, exhaust is very rusty anyway) otherwise stock when I bought it. they said someone had traded it in and hadn't a clue about it other then the model.
anyone shed light on this? Yes, I read through some other threads but didn't really find an answer.

there is a canister(passenger corner, bumper area of the car) that goes to the ACV on the engine.and in between that is a Black round thing that is the Relief silencer.(I believe that is what you are looking for, hopefully)
Look under the steel Hardline going from the Rad to the Firewall..it should be Right under that.
it sort of Snugs up against the Frame with a Big Plastic clip.(holding the Runner hose to the Frame).

ya, that was what I was talking about. I have it BUT the haynes manual does not show it in their diagrams for 1986-1988 na cars. pg 117 I think it is. must have just forgot to put it in. I'll do some comparing when I get my car out to make sure I am running my stock engine.

it was the diagram on page 116 that initially confused me as it did not show the relief silencer on it. mind you, I was mistaken and the diagram on 117 is for a turbo engine, I have na. but on page 115 it does show an "air silencer" which seems to be the same thing. so problem solved, I am running my original 140k mile engine . turbo swap on the way anyway though. wanted to make sure someone didn't switch the whole thing over to s5.
