Strange noise, thinkin differential

The rear end of the car makes a loud almost exhaust like noise when driving. Its not the exhaust, I think its the differential. Would a backlash misadjustment cause noise in the rear pumpkin? is there any way to adjust backlash with conventional gauges or will i have to take it to the dealer?

yeah its possible with those kind of miles...

I would have a look at it fast though, Im not 100% sure what your enterpretation of "kind of like exhaust" sounds like but a wheel bearing would be a slight pulsation with a loud hum....anything that is coming from your rear end (excluding the tailpipe) and sounds "kind of like exhaust" should be looked at pronto

you can check your bearings by the feeling for play on the wheels when the car is jacked up....hold the tire at the top and the bottom and try to snap it off like that, with that motion if you feel play - you need wheel bearings

but it could be a number of things....
