Strange loose rear end feeling 86 GXL

I have been having a few strange feelings with my suspension and it all happend right after i installed brand new tires on all four corners. Checked tire pressure on all four tires and they are all even. I started to suspect the rear shocks may be blown, but they are tokico 'blues' installed less than 20k miles ago. Springs are all new and Eibach produced, also with less than 20k on them.

Here is what i'm feeling. Any time during slightly moderate to WOT acceleration the vehicle will pull to the left, when the clutch is pressed to shift up to the next gear the vehicle will pull or nearly jerk to the right. I find myself compensating useing the steering wheel just to accelerate in a strait line.

I've been told that rear end bolts on the early 86' cars tend to come loose, or possible suspension arms or bushings failing completly, but right after new tires were installed? my GXL was produced in November of 85'. Was there a recall or Service announcement?

Any help on this matter would be great.

DTSS bushings? It's the first thing that comes to mind.. post up some pictures of your bushings, maybe?

just an idea.. (to tide you over until more knowledgable people chime in.. )

The new tires may just be gripping better making you notice things more easily.

edit: d'oh! beaten to the punch.. Google for RX7 DTSS if you are unfamiliar (ugh.. the results are a lot uglier than they used to be.. but you should be able to understand what it is)

The Chassis has 279,xxx miles and i've never replaced the bushings.

I suppose a revamp on all the under car bushings couldnt hurt.

i had the same happend after i replaced the wheel bearings. the hubs are held on by three large bolts. Just give it a check make sure they are not loose. i didnt tighten mine tight enough, trailing arm could do the same thing

The DTSS does get worn, but in this case I might suspect the rear subframe to unibody bushings.

Sport suspension package and TII had firmer bushings in this location. They are 2 times stiffer in once direction of deflection and 3 times stiffer in the other two directions listed in the Yamaguchi 2nd gen bible.

The GXL really puts a load on these as it is heavier than the Base and SE models that shared the compliant bushings.

I know for Silvias they offer firmer aftermarket bushings OR an aluminum spacer kit that is added above and below the bushings to take the load instead. Don't know if these are offered for FCs.

Auto-X makes a subframe stiffener package that supports at these points, but it is expensive!

The original engine lost all compression at 206,xxx. The current engine is this vehicles second engine and my first rebuild.

Still running great!
