strange idle, starts but needs rev to hold idle. Temp Sensor?

I have a 1987 13b FC. Recently I started having idling problems, I've read many threads but my problem seems to be a little different from others. First of all, when I start the car it would rev up to about 2k on its own and drop to 0 and dies out. Then when I try to start it again it cranks and feels like its about to start but doesn't. So to avoid this problem now everytime i start my car I rev it to about 3k before it dies out, then idle holds and surges at 2-2.5k rpm. After driving for a minute or so the idle regulates at 950 with no surge or dying out. It drives/idles perfectly and after driven for a while it has no problems starting up. So my first idea was a vacuum leak but the idle actually holds after giving a little gas after startup. So my second guess is a Temp Sensor, which I'm not really sure how to approach upon fixing. So if anyone has any idea what could cause this type of problem I'd appreciate the help!

actually sounds like your tps is out of range or shot, is the car running a factory comp or aftermarket like a microtech

Also check that you have enough water in the engine as if you have a water leak or a split hose on the idle speed controller motor it will **** with the idle settings alot, also make sure the hoses arnt blocked at the manifolds for the water to pass through
