Red face strange / complicated wiring diagram for riced up gauge

ok, this might have been drawn in MS Paint but it's not much worse then the printed one I have to work off. I searched online and couldnt find one to link to, so my paint skillz will have to do.

yes, a boost gauge is easy to install... hook up vac line, hook up backlight and everything's set.

I got given a weird gauge for xmas, and i dont understand the wiring diagram that came with it. here's my rendition:

anyone able to help?

what's the thing near the battery at the top? fuse box? no sense...
and the thing coming off it to the left? looks like a lamp ? no idea.................

thanks in advance. the gauge might not be great but it was free and the needle sits on zero when it's off which is better than some of the other cheapies.

edit: really doesnt belong in 2nd gen, sorry!

i got a autometer boost gauge and mine didnt have that many lines coming out of it is that orange and yellow lines for like shift light? all i did for mine was tap into my instrament cluster they come on with my parking light and i can also dim the gauge with the dimmer button.

try to see if it will light up with just the ground and the purple constant power line if it comes on i wouldnt even use the orange and the yellow lines........

I actually did specify, it's for a boost gauge. It changes colours (insert embarressed smiley)

I dont know what brand it is, it doesn't say. (insert embarressed smiley)

I'll scan the real wiring diagram.

edit: here-----------

This is confusing How? Repost a picture of the wiring coming from the guage. If it changes color there is probably a Dimmer switch or color changing pack, was there nothing like that in the package?

No, it's like I posted. It came with the gauge, vacuum line, and that wiring diagram.

How is it not confusing? If the wiring diagram makes perfect sense to you perhaps you'd care to explain what is going on with the yellow and orange wires?

edit: diagram dissappeared ?

No post an actual picture of the guage wiring not the diagram. seems like there is a dimmer control or something.

I'm at work, my car is at home. I'll get a pic when I get home, but it's just like any other boost gauge, except it has 4 wires coming off the back instead of 2. that's it. I thought it might have meant to come with a relay or something but the box was sealed when I got it..
thanks for your help though.

there look to me to be one to many wires

run your black to a ground

run your purple to a wire that only has power when the key it in the on position

run your orange (and yellow?) to a power sorce when the lights are on

thats what i would do there seems to be an extra wire for some odd reason

Nice, thanks... thinking of it that way it sorta makes sense that the wiring block the orange+yellow wires run to is meant to represent the illumination circuit.

thanks again for the help

most of this is correct ,
but
that yellow wire ooks like a constant power source to to me!!!!

the orange does go to the headlight switch though

the yellow is a constant to save the setting for which colour the gauge lights up, ( alot of these have like 7 diff colours with a push of a small button on the front)
