Question Stock stereo—any advice on removing a CD?

I've had the same CD in the player for something like a year and a half, tried to eject it a few weeks ago and nothing happened. It plays fine, so it's not a huge problem, but I'd like to remove it if I could. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this without taking apart the stereo? A search of the forum led to a thread about a stuck cassette tape in which people recommended replacing the stereo, and while I understand the rationale for that advice, it's not something I really feel like doing because the RX-7 is my second car, not my primary daily driver. (I could just leave the CD in there and buy another copy for use elsewhere, which is what I may do if there's no easy way to do this short of taking the stereo apart. At least it's a pretty good CD if it has to be stuck in there!)

Thanks in advance.

It's Dark Side of the Moon isn't it?

Anyways...there should be an emergency release mechanism for the tray somewhere- I've never had a stock setup so I don't know where it is but I'll bet your local stereo installer could find it.

No, it's the soundtrack to a movie called Almost Famous. The movie was so-so but the soundtrack is outstanding.

I'll try a Google search to try to find anything on an emergency release mechanism. Thanks.

Smash it open, remove the CD, go buy a new head unit. A basic brandname CD tuner is cheap and infinitely superior to the stock unit.

This is nice way to ruin the stock look of the car...if you have to take the stock unit out, might as well open'er up. The emergency release may be only accessible after taking the unit out.

Driving home last night, I noted the small hole to the left of the CD player. On a PC, that hole is the emergency release; you poke in a paper clip or something similar. I'll give that a try this weekend (have to bring a paper clip home from the office).

As for NZConvertible's idea, I knew someone was going to ignore the statement in my post that I have no desire to replace the stereo.....

What makes you think it won't just jam again the next time you insert a CD?

Oh god then he'll have to use a paperclip again.

Also, a repair shop should be able to fix the stereo.

If I get this disc out, I probably won't insert another CD for precisely that reason! I may get it fixed eventually, of course, but on the whole, I use the stereo a lot less in this car than in my other one anyway. Like to listen to the engine sound, and plus if the top is down at 75 mph on the highway the stereo becomes a bit harder to hear anyway.....
