Stock springs linear or progressive?
yeah basicly want to know if the stock springs are linear or progressive. I think they would be progressive but i was just wanting to find out what they really are.

By now, the stock springs have gotten progressively crappy- in a very linear fashion.
Anyhoo, according to The Mazda Performance Handbook, the stock springs were (are) linear.

You can tell if it is linier or progressive by looking at the spring. If the distance between the coils is the same throught the whole spring it is a liniar rate spring. If there are two different distances between the coils then it is a progressive coil.

Wow great info thx for the pics really sums everthing up. since i have stock springs they will have the same spring rate no matter how much they compress.
the real reason i wanted to find out is because my buddy is giving me those crappy mookee coil overs (yes 4 free) but i wanted to know if i could use them on my stock springs. i figured if the stocks would have been progressive then the lower i made my car the stiffer the springs would be. because i didnt want to use the crappy springs that came with the coilover kit.
If i use tanabe progressive rate springs would they work the way im wanting them to? meaning the lower i make the car using the coilover sleeves to compress the springs and lowering the car. wich would result in making the springs stiffer.
Would it just be better to get linear springs? and if they fit on the coilover sleeves lower the car that way. because it looks like there linear springs from the pics i've seen and thats what comes on the crappy coil overs.
As of right now im still using my stock springs and stock GXL AAS shocks. Another reason i'm asking all of this is because everyone says the mookee springs are way to stiff. so i thought a less stiff spring would work if there linear, or use a progressive spring and have adjusability of how stiff the springs would be by raising or lowering the car.
All of this is depending if teh springs actually fit on the coilover sleeves properly.
wow wrote a good amount but just trying to figure out what is possible.
