stock speaker connections

Here's the deal:

I just bought my first 2nd gen 86 RX and I'm trying to get the stock speakers re-wired to the stock radio. I know what you're thinking, just plug'em in, sorry nothing is that simple. The guy who had it before me, wired in some crappy speakers into the back and cut every connector from the radio there was. I checked your site here, and got the wire colors and went to it, however, there seems to be an issue. The wire layout on this site states 2 wires for each of the rear speakers...when in mine, I have 4 per rear speaker. These are mounted at the top of the strut towers in the rear.

I tried every combination I could think of, but they still aren't working. Just wondered if you had any thoughts.

Thanks.

hmm, each one of my rear speakers has 5 wires. 3 for the amp and 2 for the audio signal.

My speakers only have 2 so i'm not much help there. Just curious, why do you want to go back to the stock ones?

i have 5 1/4 component speakers in the rear now. i bypassed the factory amps by soldering wires to the speaker inputs on the inside of the factory enclosure and left the amp connector unplugged.

as for your problem.....i'm not sure why you only have 4. i would think you should either have 5 or 2, not 4. turn the stock radio on....turn the volume all the way down. check each of the four wires for voltage. of the ones that read no voltage, check them for ground. the one that is NOT ground is your speaker + wire. of the ones that are ground, well, one is the speaker ground and one is a different ground.

in other words, check all 4 wires. if any read a voltage(12v), they need to be taped off or covered up so it won't ground on the body.

all that read no voltage....check for ground....the one wire that is neither ground nor reads voltage is you speaker + terminal wire.

the other one or two wires should read ground, but only one of them is for the speaker. try one and then try the other.

if that doesn't work, then i guess i typed all that for nothing. either way, good luck.
