Stock rims, what tires should I buy?
I just got an '88 Turbo II and the tires on it have about 10% tread left, but they're dry and cracking so I need to replace them. They're on the stock rims, and I don't have the money to get new rims, so which tires that would fit on my current rims would be the best value for my money? Basically what do you guys think I should put on now?

Well.. it really depends on what you want to do. Are you going to autocross or just drive on the streets? do you drive hard?
The stock tyre size should be 205/55/R16
If you suspension isn't too beat up you can fit 225/50/R16
If you are thinking of autocrossing, Yokomama ES100's are really good. Falken Azenis are also very good but they don't come in 225/50/R16 size.
But if you are just running around town Kumho ecsta 712s will be significantly cheaper and will perform almost as good as the above mentioned on the streets.
711's are alot cheaper but is not considered a performance tyre
got to these websites to check out your options.. read up on the UTQG and tech thing on tirerack.com

i have 712's on my crx...which has 92 horsepower, and they dont hold that well. They also wore out in less than a year. My friend has es100's on his mr2, nice tires, a little better than the 712's. My friend with a TII has Bridgestone potenza's, and those are the nicest tires i have ever rode on, but are a little pricey.

Ok, thanks to you I went to tirerack.com and found the ES100's you talked about, bridgestone potenza RE750-'s and Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico as well as PZero System Direzionale. Now I'm not completely loaded but i could pay for any of those tires, would I have to get them balanced and aligned or anything. Or could I just jack it up and put on new tires. What is your opinion on either of those, and out of those 4 which ones do you think are the best. I could probably get Pirelli's for cheaper than that since I know a guy at a local porsche dealer.
Thanks for the help so far

It really depends on what you want to do. Are you autocrossing? How hard do you drive on the street? Is a little increase in performance worth the increase in price?
When you mount those tyres you should balance them.
Don't drive hard for the first 500 miles.

There is a whole bunch of tech articles at tirerack.com
Tyres aren't cheap and you will be stuck with them for a while. I suggest some research. Here is a link to a whole bunch of tech articles at tyrerack.com

oh i meant bridgestone potenza S0-3's, but those are expensive. Mounting and balancing the tires cost like 10 bucks a wheel at sams club or costco. You will not need an alignment, unless you already needed one.

Ok thanks, I will be racing it pretty soon so they need to be ok for hard driving. I am thinking about autoX and the PZeros I've seen are 110 and down. I can get some for about 70 a tire I think with 90% tread left.
