Stock Radio

Yes, I know it's not worth it to fix the stock radio but I'm still wondering if anyone has. I'm having issues with the tape deck. It just recently stopped working. I hear a ticking sound when I insert a cassette adapter if that sounds familiar to anyone please chime in. Yeah I know this is retarded of me but I just don't need stupid crap happening over an after market radio. My friends car was jacked and completely neutered and all she had was an aftermarket radio that was worth taking. They even took her personalized plate holder that had her bf's and her name on it just because. Anyway, I'd rather not have my car broken into or torn to **** just because they couldn't find anything worth a damn to take. So if anyone happens to know how to fix or has one dirt cheap they don't mind sending my way please respond, and thanks in advance.

It sounds a little like a broken belt. This isn't too hard to fix, assuming you can find the right size and diameter belt. There are various electronics supply houses on the web that sell belts. I ordered one for an old CD player that I had (for the drawer mechanism). You can probably fix it yourself if that's the problem.

You know if you do get a new aftermarket head unit, most of them have removable faceplates which makes them less tempting for the smash-and-grabbers.

Yeah, I know but here's the kicker. My friend had her faceplate removed and they still broke into it because the plate does not cost that much to replace and thanks I will look into it and hopefully that's whats wrong with it.

Some cassette adapters will not work with the stock radio. The clicking sound you're hearing may be radio cassette player changing tracks. Several years ago, when I still had my stock radio, I tried hookig up an xm sattelite radio using the xm radio's cassette adapter. I did the same thang as you've described. Apparently, some cassette adapters will not work with the stock radio. Sony cassette adapters seem to work alright with the stock radio.

you could always install a "nice" stereo in the glove box (or under / behind the seats if you want to run a ton of extra wires) and keep the stock one in its spot - it's a pretty good theft deterrent since they don't even know it's there :-)

Hmm..that actually sounds like a pretty good idea but I don't want extra wires running around my car. Besides it would be a pain in the *** to change stations and volume etc...if I lost the remote which I probably would because I'm a damn kluts.
