Stock Oil Pressure Gauge -- questions
Okay all-- Well some of you may know my situation, but for those that don't...
The driverside of the engine bay is a mess-- I just did a tranny swap about 3 months ago, and the harnesses were all pushed to the driverside to be connected. Anyway, we two wires that are not connected to anything.
1.) I've detmermined that one of the two is the oil pressure gauge. The wire is stripped (but capped). When uncapped, I can ground it and the oil pressure gauge reads a *very*strong high peg. (almost imediate). When I remove the wire from the ground, it very slowly returns to 0.
2.) I don't have a clue on this wire. This is the wire that I did have connected to the (what I now know as) the oil pressure gauge wire. The entire time it was connected, the guage always read zero.
I have fuzzy pictures of the wires, but have misplaced my camera sometime in the works of coming inside after working on the car (go figure). I believe both wires are solid black, but its pretty hard to tell in dim light and everything is covered in road gum. I thought the wire was to be grounded to the bell houseing with the capacitator, but its pretty obvious thats not the case.
BTW the wire (2nd one) that was connected to the (1st) wire is so far down that crimping the wire is almost out of the question w/o dropping the tranny or pulling the engine. The stock wiring routes simply don't give enough length to accomadate a tool where the wire is cut or torn.
In any case, the wire that is causing a high peg on grounding is my main concern right now. The fact that the car runs fine is a good indication of me just messing with smaller "on the agenda to be fixed" things.
I'll post the pictures as soon as I can find my camera.
Thanks all!

Also I should note that
wire one has no continuity on the multimeter ( I didn't try for resistance) and that i couldn't check wire two because its incredibly dificult to work in that area w/o removing the manifolds (which I really don't care to do as its an extra 1-2 hours i would have to work on this with)

i'm particular to the randomness of it, but should have more stuff to see

I'll make a new post when its more finished, I did not install the seats because I plan to install a reare strut bar and work a back rest off of that. If you've ever sat in the humps made from the bins you know why the 2+2 seats are almost nothing but backrest. Its comfortable as hell less the no leg room. I've got a few pics on my site of how its going so far.
In the mean time....
BUMP!!

I know its blury, I am holding the wire towards the camera (and hence a bit out of focus) Its the one that looks like it is being held tight against the camera. I need to know where this goes, I've determined that it goes *to* the oil pressure gauge. I need to know either which wire it goes to, or what mount it goes too.
thanks

Well.. I dont know if this helps, but here is what I know..
There are 2 wires in the engine bay that relate to the stock oil guage.
#1 - Its the wire that normally has the clip on the end that slides onto the oil pressure sender. (black i am pretty sure).
#2 A second wire comes out of the harness at a different location and has a little tiny black plastic thing on the end with a metal spade with a hole in it.
* depending on your car, the stock location of that 2nd wire should go (or be) bloted to a ground at one of two locations.
#1 - one of the bolts that holds the slave cylinder onto the tranny. (this is where I was told I would find it)
#2 - Under the secondary coil next to another ground clip that grounds about 5 other wires. This is where I found mine on my 88 TII.
By the way.. That connection as well as the clip for the other wires was all rusty. Cleaning them up (as well as the sender clip) will give you a truer oil pressure reading.
AS for yours... hmm.. did you lose the clip and or black piece on the end of those?

I have the #2 wire located and grounded without the capicitator, it broke off and I didn't take the time to make effective replacement. Its straight grounded. The wire I am left withis wire #1. I can't seem to find the post it connects to on the oil pedastool. The wire tore apart during the tranny swap and I don't have the clip.

I ran into similar trouble when I replaced the battery cables in mine. I had to unwrap part of the engine harness to remove the old cables.

If the wire is yellow with a red stripe, it connects to two different compoents 1) a white connector with a half-moon like cut on one side (this clips onto the round copper part of the oil pressure sender), and a black connector that plugs into a grounding capacitor (a.k.a. condensor). If you grounded one of the wires, the oil pressure gauge would shoot right up.
