Stock Oil Pressure

According to the STOCK OIL PRESSURE GAUGE in my S4 TII, pressure is between 0-30 at idle, and when accelarating, pressure jumps up to between 30-60. That's pretty much the only locations of the needle.

Is this because the stock gauge is a dummy gauge (like the boost and water gauges)?

I'm already running aftermarket boost and water temp gauges and have since ordered an oil pressure gauge, but should I be worried about my oil pressure in the mean time? Should the stock gauge be reading a higher pressure?

If you're seeing a steady 60 psi or so above 3K rpm, you should be OK. Idle at 30 is typical. For more information check out the factory service manual which is free for the download from a number of sites including: http://foxed.ca/foxed/index.php?page=rx7manual

I guess my description was a little too broad. 30 and 60 and 110 are the only numbers on the stock oil pressure gauge. If I had to guess, according to my stock gauge, my oil pressure is about 15 at idle and 45 when driving.

Does that sound like a typical dummy-gauge reading or a malfunction of some kind?

sounds low but i wouldnt worry about it until you verify with an aftermarket gauge.

The stock gauge is not a "dummy" style, although it is very heavily dampened and doesn't respond as quickly as your average aftermarket unit.

My oil pressure is @10psi at idle and maxes out at @55psi above 5k rpm. Typically, I see @40-45psi during normal driving.
It's been this way for nearly three years now.

While this is not an ideal pressure, clearly it's also not fatal...I've put over 35k miles on this engine.

oil pressure problems usually occur right after a rebuild or front cover removal due to human error. after that point the gauges fail far more often than the oiling system

the stock oil pressure sender is basically a pressure switch. after like.. i think 10 or 12 ( hey, i dont know the exact number )psi, the gauge just reads another number.

Could this be related to a failed thermal pellet? I know that my oil pressure used to be about where the op said his is at. After I shimmed the pellet, the pressure increased to about what GO48 said.

This is a fresh rebuild. It has about 6k on the dial. Really won't know until I get that aftermarket gauge...

Gauge and adapter plate are in the mail. Update coming soon...

my thermal pellet works

cold oil pressure is about 15 at idle, and it'll be about 45-50 over 2000rpm

when the thermal pellet closes, oil pressure comes up. its about 25-30 at idle and over 60 above 2000rpms.

Okay, aftermarket gauge is in, and my oil pressure is fine. Basically, take the stock gauge and add 20psi and it's accurate.

And NOW my water temp gauge stopped working...
