Stock head lamp electrical draw? How many amps?

Yo guys, i'm getting ready to get rid of my broken flip up lights on my GTU, thank god!

I wanted to know how much power the stock headlamps use in AMPs. I couldn't find it in my haynes or in the FSM(yet), so if anyone knows the answer off hand that'd be cool. The reason i'm asking is because my lighting system that I have to retrofit onto the FC will be drawing about 30A peak with the high beams on. About 15A running low beams only.

Btw i'm running a Silverrotor FD alt kit which cranks out about 94A in the hot texas weather.

How much money did you spend all together on the alternator conversion?

ohms law:

wattage divided by voltage = amperage

55 watt bulbs, divided by 12.5 volts = 4.4 amps per bulb

or (highbeams)

65 watts, divided by 12.5 volts = 5.2 amps per bulb.

or ebay xeon lights:

100 watts divided by 12.5 volts = 8 amps per bulb

(of course with that last one you can see how you are almost double the power running through those stock wires and could possibly be ready for the wiring to over heat).

now don't forget the stock parking light bulbs as well...

most are 5 or 7 watt bulbs, so 7 divided by 12.5 = .56 amps (times every lit bulb on the car when the lights are on).

and of course stop/turn bulbs are 37 watts each, making them a huge 3 amps per brake bulb light, so just putting your foot on the brake draws 15 amps.

Back in the day when I had Raquel(87 sport) I spend somewher in the neiborhood of 180. I think he's selling them again.

Icemark: thanks!

I'm just using the 15/30A figures because thats what they are fused for(they have 15 amp fuses) on their harness. I'm going to be using four 55W lamps, two per side. Two low beam and two high beam. So They should be about stock power draw?

as long as the low and high bulbs are not on at the same time, then yes they should be about the same draw.

Just out of curiosity, how many amps does the average electric fan draw?

Mine draws under 20A(the t-stat/relay are fused for 20A) IIRC

BTW:

Icemark: i'm not going to be using the stock wiring at all. I'm using the harnesses they sell at autozone for driving lamps. One for low beams and one for high. I actually planned on using both sets of bulbs simultaneusly. Dunno how my alternator is going to like that though. :/

well then probably if you figure around 5 amps per headlight, you should be pretty close (as long as they are not the funky ebay xeon bulbs).

most electric fans draw around 20-30 amps. Some however can peak draw up to 70 amps momentarly when first starting/turning on.

They are H3 55W 12V lamps.
