Stock electric fan?

When my car was sitting today, I noticed a sound with the motor off and the ignition on. It was coming from the font, so I checked it out, and I have a small (6" or so diameter) electric fan in front of my radiator, at the top and in the center. Looks stock.

Is this unprecedented? It's a 10th anniversary. My S4 GXL does not have this fan.

Automatic cars and Turbos I believe had the auxiliary fan.

I think it's supposed to kick on when the A/C is on.

On the front side of the radiator.

It's on a ~207F temperature switch (thermostat cover), but there's also some computer control over it. I don't think the A/C switch overrides it and switches it on. It's in the wiring diagrams if you're feeling motivated.

Always confused me why they didn't put the additional fan on manual NA's. However, all mounting points are there so an easy retrofit. Even with my FMIC.

Any and all pulled air is a good thing.

Its definatly a computer controlled thing. Mine will fire up for a few seconds at startup, so it does work. But then when I would tool around with the A/C on when it was warm I would get a warning light when the thing was supposed to turn on. Thought it was the sensor on the coolent neck but after I replaced that, it still doesnt' work.

The fan came on cars with automatic transmissions; it is supposed to come on when either the coolant temp switch (mounted in the thermostat cover) exceeded its limit OR the air conditioning was turned on.

the RELAY is even there!
When we were tracing my AC system on my vert we found that one of the relays up front is actually just looped- going nowhere- thats when I realized that relay MUST be for the electric fan if so equipped.

I only had one S4 TII, but I could swear there was a light on the dash for the fan?
