what the hell i didn't even know the fc had a stock anti-theft system if so how do you turn it on, what is it good for? i have a 90' vert -- is it any good?? because i would love to get lower insurance rates
Ive got an 88 coupe withthe stock anti-theft system still installed. The way it works, iin what ive seen so far, is that it turns itself on once both the drivers door and passengers door is locked. But apparently you can open the hatch and not set the alarm off as I had to climb in 3 times to unlock my car in this manor(my door locks are fucked up and i drive around with it unlocked all the time....) But the system does not go off unless the doors are opened without the keys(if you lock them that is)
Yeah thats what I thought, though it is quiet annoying once youve set it off....i had to remove my battery cables to stop the car from flashing its lights and honking....but im sure once i get my lock situation fixed ill be happy with it.
The stock system is an exceptional system, that will trigger if the doors are unlocked without a key or if the trunk or hatch is opened or if the key is turned on in the ignition.
Unlike all aftermarket alarms which will only trigger when the door is opened, the factory system will trigger even if someone reaches inside the window and unlocks the door from the inside.
It disables the starter, so you don't have to worry about the system failing while you are driving and killing the car.
It only disarms from using the key in the door to the unlock position (and or on some models in the trunk/hatch). It does not disarm from turning the ignition on.

Thanks for the clarification Icemark. I was just going on what my experience has been with mine so far....though I remember once turnign the ignition or at least startign the car and it shut off once....
ahh thanks for clearing that up
-- so if i get this right -- if i have someone lock me in the car and then i pop the hood i should be able to set off the security systyem,
or even if i rolll down a window and lock the car then wait a bit, then reach in and unlock it with my hand it should go off??

hmmm.... nothin maybe i didnt wait long enough after i locked it and rolled down the window...
lol if i cant even set it off when i try then how effective can this really be, maybe my system is broken or something... on that note any systems you would recommend for a vert
-- icemark i tottally read another thread about this where you answered like every question ever but i cant find that thread anymore lol!!
i remember you talkin about some microwave system that can tell if someone gets in the car after system has been set -- that would be cool cause i could leave the top down...

ok so i noticed this too -- i had the radio/ power on to roll up windows, then after i turned it back off there was a light in the dash i had never noticed that said security and had a little illuminated car with a key in it -- but then it just turned off....

Did your system start its slow flash (once every 5 seconds) before you tested. It needs to be armed, which is the slow flash of the security light, to trigger.

The security light will then flash fast, after 30-45 seconds will beep once and start flashing slow (again one flash every 5 or so seconds). The system is armed when the light is flashing slow.
At that point unlocking the door without using the key in the door, popping the hatch (again without using the key), putting the key into the ignition, popping the hood all will trigger the akarm.
remember to disarm, turn the key in the door (or hatch/trunk on some models) to the unlock position. On some S5 models also turning the ignition on, with a key has been successful in disarming, but it shouldn't and suggests that the CPU needs resoldering. Note that normally anytime the ignition is turned on, without a key in the switch (as would happen if someone tried to hot wire) would also trigger the alarm.

!! sweet it works -- only after i armed it right lol -- thanks for all your help icemark -- i think it would be wise of me to add glass break sensors, dual stage shock sensors and that microwave thing you were talkin about also to keep punks at my school from ****** with my car -- ive heard of something that will warn people when they get too close? can i get that as well so i dont have people writing **** on my windows in that ****** annoying window chalk?
well with a feild/proimity sensor you don't need the glass sensors, and only a single stage shock sensor is needed as the factory system only has trigger inputs and no warn inputs.
I have field/proximity sensors on all my cars. that way I can leave windows or roofs down and know that if anyone reaches inside the car the security system will trigger.

I used to try to make it go off all the time I could never do it, and then one day at a car show I reached in the car to unlock it and the alarm whent off, It scared the crap out of me, all the old guys with the old muscle cars were all lookin at me like who in the hell would try to steal a car at a car show, and some of them looked shocked when I pulled the key out and shut it off (I was 16 or 17 at the time), now I know how it works, thanks.
I just tried getting my system to work but the security light never came on
Is this another case of having bad connections at the ECU, cause I need to get in there sooner then later to get my horn working again

On S5 models the CPU has a built in security modual on the main circuit board, but on S4 models the alarm brain is its own box.
Most of the time if the system does not arm, either the doors were not locked properly (in other words user error) or the latch switches are dirty/broken/mis-alinged.

yeah, I use the 508D from Directed.
On my vert I ended mounting the sensor right under the front of the rear tire cover next to the tool kit, with the sensor facing upwards.
It seems to cover the whole interior just fine and will trigger if someone runs their hand just over the top, but not if they just walk by.
