My alarm went off for the first time since I bought it 2 years ago (88 S4 Vert) last week. I figure someone bumped the car. I put the key in the doorlock and opened it and the alarm stopped. That's all I know, the alarm light comes on when I lock the car and goes out after a couple of minutes.

s4 or s5? (i have no idea if there are any differences in the factory alarm system between the two)

you could just not arm the alarm. but im a bit confused as to exactly what the problem is.

maybe something happened when you fixed the cpu for the horn?

Everything you ever wanted to know about the operation of the Factory Alarm System (S5 models at least).

No don't try to start the car. I put an S4 door on my S5. It goes off sometimes because the electronics in the door are different. So I usually run to the pass side door + use the key to open it from there. Try locking everything then unlocking a different door. Or try locking then opening the hatch with the key. You can always unhook your battery they connect it again.

In the first .jpg I posted above, read top right paragraph.

Also read the bold letters in the bottom left paragraph of the last .jpg attached.

check out the contacts on the door lock switch and clean them up.. then the off switch is located on the door locks themselves if i recall.

Im curious how effective the OE alarm is against say a drilled out lock?

What do u mean a drill out lock? The oem alarm miles the starter so it's a kill switch when it's on.

I ended up disabling mine completely, it had no rhyme or reason to it's behavior. Unplug the control unit located under the glove compartment if all else fails. Just don't leave anything valuable in your car (not that any alarm is much of a deterrent to a desperate thief.)
