Stock 550cc w/ E6K

Ok, I did the usual searching first and I couldn't find anything so here goes.

I'm doing a single upgrade on my FC, big turbo, FMIC, blah, blah, blah......now I get a call from my mechanic and he says that the 1600cc injectors that I have for the secondarys will work with the Haltech E6K wiring harness, but the stock 550cc primarys won't. I didn't realize that this would be an issue. Is there a difference between S4/S5 turbo injectors and the N/A injectors? I'm pricing out the 720cc injectors but I'd like to use the 550cc for now since I'll have to wait about 3 weeks for them to show up.

Any help would be great.

I've never heard of there being a problem using the stock 550cc injectors with any kind of standalone. What was the reason he gave exaclty?

Well, he said that the connectors for the primary injectors that are on the E6K wiring harness will not fit on the stock 550cc injectors. So I'm guessing that there is some difference between the connector on the injector and the clip, which is wierd because the guy I bought the E6K from said that he had used the stock 550cc in his and had no problem with them. The only thing I can think if is that my mechanic is stalling, but there is so much stuff to do on the car that I don't know why he would do that.....

Well, anyways thats it in a nut shell.

So... cut off your injector connectors from your stock harness, cut the ones out of the e6k harness, and swap them?

S4 injectors used square plugs and s5 used oval, maybe the person before you had a different series, therefore different plug style.

So get new injector plugs to suit the stock injectors. A decent mechanic shouldn't have to ask you that...

There are three different injector plugs used on FC's depending on year:

- S4 86-87.5 (low impedance injector, rectangular plug)
- S4 87.5-88 (high impedance injector, rectangular plug with offset pin)
- S5 89-91(high impedance injector, oval plug).

NA and Turbo injectors use the same plug. The Haltech will work with pretty much any injector if you put the right plug on the end of the harness.

I realize that, I think that he just likes to complain a lot. Worst case, I'll cut the connectors from my stock harness for now and keep the ones from the haltech for when I get my 720cc later on. Is it really that big a deal.......I guess I'm just a little crazy about keeping things the way that they came and not cutting things if I don't have to.

Also, would it be possible to modify a pair of FD 850cc to fit into my Primary fuel rail?

That's what I'd do.

No chance, they're side-feed.

yeah you might not want to have this guy installing your haltech if he can't wire up a set of fuel injectors. Just a suggestion. Also I run a 720/1680 combo and it gave me alot of flooding problems in the begining so running the 550's until after you get all the trouble shooting done is a good idea.

I used S5 550's and didn't have a problem. The only thing i don't like is the kick between primaries and secondaries coming on under boost. But that's something that will be lessened when i get some 720's.

Will that really correct the studdering problem? I've heard a little about this but not really sure what the solution is. I'd figure that it would have more to do with the tuning as opposed to the size of the primarys.

Also, did you cut the S5 injector connectors from the stock harness and splice it to the haltech harness? Thanks

Yeah...my E6K harness was unterminated...Uncut...The way it came in the year 2000, now you can almost get them plug and play.

Half: It does have to do with the tunning...But you're going from a 550 injector to something twice it's size. 720's will bridge the gap a little closer and minize it. you can play with WHEN the secondaries kick in, and % but you can only do so much...it's not that much of a problem, I'd just like to improve on what I have. It'll kick in hard no matter what i do, once the Nitrous comes on anymway.
