Stereo Wont Work

Alright, the stereo will not cut on at all...no lights, no nothing.

this started right after i was replacing some of the rear interior, i did remove the power antenna and getting the hole shaved over. i unplugged the antenna wiring from the cdplayer today to make sure it wasnt affecting anything.

the speakers in the rear towers were removed and then put back in. (i have checked both speakers to make sure the + and - wires arent touching)

forum members told me to check the fuses, i checked the 20a fuse in the drivers side foot area, and the 10a fuse on the rear of the actual cd player.....both are ok.....stereo still does not cut on.

the ground from the back of the deck is grounded to a bolt thats holding the gear shift mechanism in place.

also, the metal thing that the cd player bolts to, then you slide it in your dash....the bottom left screw hole, i touched the ground to that it sparked.....shouldnt that be already grounded and not do that??

any suggestions? please help, thanks

There are 3 fuses that provide power to stock radio.

The 7.5 amp battery lead
The 20 amp accessory lead
and the parking light lead.

sounds like you only checked the 20 amp accessory fuse.

Also, if the cage is sparking when grounded, then your ground wire is not sufficent/ or even working, and needs to be fixed. If you ran a ground wire it should be going to the center consol bolts under the access panels next to where your knees are.

Drivers kick panel fuse box.

The 7.5 amp fuse is the room fuse

and don't forget, your installer did not ground the radio properly

One thing we didn't consider here Icemark, is that he could have blown the fuse on the (+) feed for the stereo...generally encased enroute to the deck. Pop it open and check that as well.

You are saying no sound, or the aftermarket radio does not even power up???

The power antenna fuse is still in right?

do you have stock amps? How about aftermarket amps??? what year?

No power on the blue/white at the back of the radio?

Then your 20 amp audio fuse is bad.

I thought you said you checked them??? Did you check them with a multi-meter or just look at them? You know you often can not tell if a ATF type fuse is bad by just looking at it.

If the fuse is good, you will need to get your multi-meter out and check both sides of the wiring at the fuse box.

With the fuse in the fuse box, and the key in the acc position, is there power on both sides of the fuse at the test taps on the top of the fuse???

There are two little metal tabs at the top of each fuse. These are to test the fuse when it is in the fuse box.

How did you check the fuse with a meter without using these tabs?
