Stereo related question

I installed a deck on my 86 Rx7 the other day. I am unable to get AM radio. I was confused as to why the antenna was already plugged into a thick black cable that looks like it was made to do that. I have the power att wire attached to what the FSM says is the power att wire.I have tried it both ways, the att plugged into the stereo and into the black plug. The first day the att went up and down at random now its stuck 1/3 of the way up and still no AM radio.any thoughts?

did you use a relay as described and shown in the FAQ for FC sticky thread?

It sounds like you didn't and therefore your power antenna will not work with an aftermarket radio unless you do use one

+1 to what Icemark said.

But to add, the stock FC has two antennas. One in the windshield (stock windshield) and the rear antenna. The windshield is for FM only. Make sure you are connecting the rear antenna to your deck.

AM radio still exists? Hmm....

Ok, so I recognized that there were two antennae as soon as I saw my windsheild. From what you are saying, I guess there are two wires back there. (I thought I saw as much last time I was digging back there. )

My question (and sorry to hijack the post) is, if you get an AM/FM head and you want both would you have to get some kind of splitter in order to plug both antennae into said head unit ?

The rear antenna will pick up both front and rear, however the front windshield antenna will not pick up AM at all.

Sometimes cheaper radios have terrible AM reception. I've installed radios before that have done the same thing. We can plug in another radio and AM will work, but then revert back to the other one and AM doesn't come in at all. Cheap JVC decks do it a lot, but it just depends on the vehicle.
