stereo problems

i recently hooked up my stereo deck in my convertible (original owner took his with him), its a kenwood KDC-4019. I got it all installed and it was working fine for a good 15-20 minutes, but then when i put the top up the sound died.. i had power to the radio all the lights and buttons worked but i had no sound, so i put the top back down and tried turning the key on and off.. and everytime the radio turns on you hear a click in all the speakers, so i left it on in hopes the sound would come back and about 5-10 minutes later all the speakers came back on and it was fine again, i drove it for about 3 hours and it was fine.. brought it back home put the top up and still the stereo was fine, so i thaught maybe it was just a one time thing. But then this morning i had the stereo on and put the top down and it was fine.. and i had it on for about 20 minutes in my driveway and when i went to put the top up.. again the sound died and i get the same click when i turn the key off and on... i let it sit all day with the top up and the stereo off because i had to go out.. but then tonight i tried it when i got home and still nothing so.. i dunno what to do..

any1 have any idea as to whats causing this? it doesnt make sense becuase i have power.. i'm not using a seperate amp, its just the deck straight to the speakers, could the amp on my stereo be acting up? is it just a coincidence that its only happened when i put the top up?

I had a similar problem and it was one of my rear speaker wires was getting pinched sumwhere and was grounding the speaker out causing it to not play any music through any of the speakers...Id check them out I also was getting a little click noise when the stereo would turn on. listen for what speaker that noise is coming from because it is most likely its the wire to that speaker getting grounded out.

thats exatcly what it was!! as soon as I read your reply, it dawned on me that everytime i put the top up i have to reposition myself in the seat to reach the top latch on the passenger side, in doing so I could be pinching the wire for the drivers side headrest speakers. so i went out and i unplugged em then all the others turned on. thnx for your help cls6888.
