Stereo Problem

When I got my RX-7, I put the CD Player from my old 626 into my new car. Everything seemed to fall into place. Except the antana. I couldn't find where to plug it into, but no worries. I never use the radio, so I really don't care.

I installed the player, and the front speakers didn't work. I ran new wires, and they ended up working.

On to the problem:

When I FIRST turned it on, it was faded normal, and everything worked. I turned the volume up, and the CD Player turned off and then back on....then off for a second, then back on. And it kept doing that. By off, I mean, the power to the CD Player shut off. If I turn it off manually, it still lights up and says "Off".

After this started happening, I faded the sound to the front speakers. Problem solved. For then.

My dad took the car to work, and faded then back to the rear. I foudn this out when I got in the car. I turned up my CD and it started shutting off, turning back on, and so on. I faded the sound back to the front, and it was STILL doing it.

I have no idea what the problem is. Could it be the back speakers? (I didn't replace those, they still might be the same one's from 88') Could it be my installation job? lol

Help me!

There is a short in the wiring for your rear speakers, or a blown rear speaker, or the amps for the rear speakers have not been bypassed (if your rear speakers have amps).

Thought so.

I don't think there are amps back there, unless they came with the car.

Sorry, I'm a stereo n00b.

Any suggestions on how I might be able to solve this problem? lol

*EDIT*

In saying, do I run new wires? If so, how and where to the old ones run? Maybe getting new rear speakers?

Disconnect the rear speakers at the speaker...

If the problem goes away, then the problem is with the speaker. Replace the speaker.

If the problem doesn't go away when you disconnect the rear speakers, then its an wiring issue. At that point double check you wiring connections behind the radio to make sure you didn't pinch something putting the radio in.

The odds of having to run new wires is very very low. The stock wiring does not go bad unless harnesses have been modified, cut, or damaged with aftermarkt equipment (like seats, or amplifiers, or battery relocations, ETC).

If you found the stock stereo's ACC and illumination wires, then you found the antenna wire too; they're in the same 3-pin plug. It's a light blue wire with a yellow stripe. The FC's antenna requires a switched ground, but modern decks provide switched power, so you need to use a relay like this:
