steel to alum hood. Is it hard?
steel to alum hood. Is it hard?
I'm not too good with cars but I can manage...I'm thinking about doing this conversion and wondering how hard it is and how long it would take?
There are like 4 bolts...that's it. You'll want help, though, because trying to hold up a hood and get a couple of bolts in will be very very difficult alone.
edit: Just remember to remove the washer fluid hose.

With a friend it will take around 2 minutes to actually swap. And maybe another 10-20 minutes to get it properly aligned. You should also get the proper hood latch and get something to protect the steel hinges from corrosion.

Aluminum Economical and overall best value.
Glass Double the price of an aluminum hood with maybe half the weight.
CF Over double the cost of an aluminum hood Most are not 100% CF they are only CF over glass or aluminum cores. Strength is ok but these are mostly bought for "looks" and "i'm cool cuz I have CF" reasons.

i make a custom fg hood for 379, and weight is typically 20 lbs. Aluminum is around 27. There is no conversion process. It takes me longer to put gas in my car than it would for me to switch hoods.

steel hood weighs right around 50 pounds.... aluminum hood weighs 21 pounds (n/a)..... c/f hood weighs 20 pounds and costs an assload (n/a)
So overall the cheapest best hood is the aluminum (what I have)
