Is the automatic Ecu different than a 5-speed manual ecu??

They are different. You'll need to swap in an ECU from a manual '7. I suggest www.thepartstrader.com.

I seriously doubt your problem is the ECU. I've used a N332 turbo ECU in a N/A car that uses a N326 and the car starts just fine. Did it to prove the N332 was functional. I firmly believe that your car has a N326 in it, does it not? Really would like an answer to that question. Will you please look at the N number on you ECU and let me know. I've looked at the secton 4a in the factory manual and look at the CONTROL UNIT specs for the pin out of the ECU. Everything implies that it is a common ECU for the auto and the manual. If you know different, please let me know what the number is. I'm making a list of ECU's. Not being a smartass. Just curious if there is such an animal and what the N number is.

If its an 86-88,then the ecu has the same part no and are unlikely to be different!
Hey Hailers I have some more ecu numbers for you:
88 N/A--N327(-18-880)
88 convertible--N338(-18-880A)
88 TII----N333(-18-880)
from a Mazda TSB

can you see the number without pulling the ecu

hailers,
i will get you the one off mine if you don't have to pull it out, i.e. just the side panel removed from the car.
