hello all recently on my 88 gxl I noticed that when I start the car the rpms jump to about 3k to 3.5k for a short period then back down to about 1.1k, so far so good. after the car has warmed up for about 5 minutes or so the idle starts to fluctuate and occassionaly returns to normal idle. this seems to dissapear as soon as I start driving and it usually only happens in the morning. Is this normal? if not what can I do to diagnose and fix the problem. Thanks in advance---Ren

The inital idle jump is normal. It's meant to warm up the pre-cats for emissions considerations.

Fluctuating idle suggests a vacuum leak.

before searching for vacuum leaks, check the adjustment of your TPS. search the web and the forum and you can find lots of info... it only takes 2 diodes from radio shack...

You can also do it with a multimeter.
