starts up but cuts off seconds later?

the first time this happened was a few weeks ago. One day i went to move my car and like three seconds after i started it, the engine just cut out, didnt stumble or anything, just cut. The next day after class i got home and it was fine. last weekend, it came back. i was told on clubfc3s its my AFM. day after it started up. So im driving home from class today and it dies, i start it, drive it cuts out, start it, drive, cuts out, until i get in the parking lot. I had an afm in my hatch just hadnt installed it, so i put it in right there. problem not solved. WTF is it? could it be my fuel pump?
i am completely lost. its a 90 gxl

Look at it logically. The fuel pump is a good place to start. Might have a loose wire, dirty pick up....check them all out and follow the trail back up to the motor. Let us know what you find out.

if your tps has an open in it somewhere it will do that. a big vaccuum leak will do that. afm's will do that. theres a lot to play with here. basically a process of elimination, but the way it sounds... how it comes and goes... its got to be a loose/dirty connection somewhere or a bad ground

theres a yellow connector on the passenger fender. im pretty sure its the only yellow one on that side. its a two prong connector. take a piece of wire and bridge the two prongs together. the purpose of this is to turn the fuel pump on. just turn the key to on and listen for that pump to sing.

i just realized something, thats on an S4 i dont know if its the same for an S5. can someone let me know?

Highly unlikely. If you're fuel filter is clogged bad enough to cut off the car, then it will obviously not provide enough fuel to start the car upon cranking.

But meh, you never know! When was the last time you changed it?

I agree with the faultly connection somewhere..are you ENTIRELY sure the AFM is plugged in? I swore mine was in once, and it turned out it was only halfway pushed in...causes these exact symptoms :X

Well, my very first time..

I had to open up the cover on the AFM, and make sure all the contacts are in place from the INSIDE. One was bent over and touching another.

I got the same issue but I can't drive mine. I replace all the fuel stuff and the Mass Air Flow! Nothing same **** happens. check your grounding somebody told me to look at that. My car has a whole set of new issues after I replace what your looking into. so hopefully I can still save it.
